PATTAYA'S Deputy Mayor, Khun Ronnakit Ekkasing,

Wind Turbines on Koh Larn Island

explained at a press conference recently that the wind turbine project on Koh Larn Island, the first such project in Thailand, had been very successful, in fact they have unexpectedly become a tourist attraction.

The 45 wind turbines have now been in operation for three years and are to supply environmentally friendly electricity to power the Koh Larn Government Office and for the Island's street lighting.

The Deputy Mayor stated that many residents had been under the illusion that the turbines would supply electricity for the whole island, however, this is an impossibility, and other measures to combat the problems of the islands electricity supply are already underway, ie through the use of underwater cabling.

Let's hope that the wind turbines carry on bringing in the tourists.
