THE Deputy Chief of the Chonburi District Offices, Khun Wattana Thaijaroen, recently reported to

Bogus Government Officials arrested in Walking Street

the Pattaya Police Department that he had been informed by venue owners in Walking Street, of a gang of Thai men selling tickets for the Chinese Beijing Acrobat Show, to local residents and tourists, under the protection of the government, he though this highly suspicious and unlikely.

At around 1.00am the police discovered three men, dressed up as Government Officials, and upon searching them, discovered that they were not the real McCoy. The three arrested men, Prawit Fonsantia, aged 37, Khamron Fonsantia, aged 28 (Prawit's younger brother), and Mr. Lek, aged 28, were all caught in possession of fake tickets, with fictitious dates and times for the performances. The three men were also apprehended with receipts from earlier sales in Walking Street and the amount of 13,000 baht in cash.

The police officers managed to discover the vehicle used by the three imposters, an Isuzu DMAX pickup truck in which they found further illegal items including, a Royal Emblem stamp, fake Government Identification Cards, with their photos affixed, and a whole host of further incriminating paperwork.

At the police station the three men confessed to making the tickets and the stamps and forged identification papers, in a bid to earn money. The three, who believed they had the perfect solution to the problem, suggested that they take the money back to the establishments they had visited and sold tickets to that evening, and that would be an end to the matter. However, they had not taken into account the anger of the venue owners, who upon hearing the solution, instructed the police to press charges to the full extent of the law. The owners hope that this will set a good example to other budding extortionists, that their behaviour will not be tolerated on Pattaya’s streets and they will be punished if they try their scams here.
