Asia Books Discount Outlet

Featured Replies

The Asia Books discount outlet on the top floor of Amarin Plaza at the Chidlom BTS is selling ALL books in the shop for 40 baht until the end of the month. There is still a pretty good selection although its been picked through. Lots of Thailand based stuff like Moore, Barret, Piprell. etc. and many trade paperbacks and many many trashy novels. Hardcover design, marketing, and advertising books too.

Worth a trip if you are a reader.

Wow... thanks for sharing, i am going there NOOOOW :)

They seem to have a new promo there every couple of months. I went a month or so ago when it was a Kilo of books for B199 (or 299? I can't remember). It calculated out to about B45 per book, so this is similar. There are some good (if outdated) political books on the Asian financial crisis (most are dated 2000-2003) as well if anyone wants more info on that, and some good out-of-date travel books, as well as the trashy novels and inappropriate "social commentary" books on the bg scene. There are on the other hand, some good anthropological books on S.E.A. culture, so it's not all bad!

Expect to spend at least a couple hours there to find any real gems, but they are there. They are on the 3rd or 4th floor, near the front of the building.

(I'm not going back for a while as I'm a sucker for travel and social/political reference books, I ended up with around 4-5 Kilos of books. I hope I don't have to move house any time soon...)

If you don't mind spending a few hours picking through really lousy books to find a couple of so-so books, it is worth the trip, but I never find anything really good there. The Kao San Road used book shops grab anything decent right away. I rather just go to Elite Books and get much better titles, even if they are more expensive.

I was not impressed, either. I'd rather pay a little more and get more results. Most of what I saw there was simply what no one else wanted to buy.

It depends on your interests. I got lots of stuff on American politics, a few cookbooks and some great graphic design books. All told I got about 30 reasonably interesting books for 1200 baht. At the used books stores in Thailand 1200 baht gets you 3 or 4 books, although obviously a better selection to suit your interest. Absolutely worth my time, but I live a couple of hundred meters away.

I also enjoy the expat fiction genre and got all of the Dean Barret books. I think he is a fun author enjoying himself.

He is a good fellow and I enjoyed Bangkok Warrior very much. :)
