Z.pe Short-url Is Failing For Me (tot, Bkk)

Featured Replies

z.pe short-url is failing for me (TOT, BKK) currently, and the latest twitter msg uses this service. (Together with bit.ly etc)

I realize that this server isn't under your control, but if the problem persists, perhaps avoid using that shirt-url one.

Update:

Since yesterday we are only using the Google url shorterner goo.gl

All the others, z.pe, bit.ly etc has been seriously overloaded lately.

Any news on when ThaiVisa's own URL shortener will be ready?

We have decided to use goo.gl instead.

OK, but according to the page on www.goo.gl it's not available for broader consumer use. So, with that in mind, how does this announcement address the issues discussed here?

We have built an API together with Google. Google is screening all url's so they don't point to pages that could compromize security.

What I meant was, how can most members use goo.gl if it's not available to the masses?

They can't. Thaivisa news admins can use the API on our servers as we are part of a beta testing team.

...beta testing...

Aha. This points to the answer. Once beta testing is finished and successful, goo.gl will be made available to the masses.

goo.gl, where gl stands for Greenland. Never been there yet. I thought it was part of Denmark, but perhaps not any more.

P.S. Looked Greenland up on Wikipedia now and got it sorted out.

It seems to be available now, but browser-dependent:

Google Chrome:                  http://goo.gl/PiyX > browser extension

Firefox:                                 http://goo.gl/b17t > Firefox add-on

Firefox:                                 http://goo.gl/1lBN > Google Toolbar for Firefox

Microsoft Internet Explorer: http://goo.gl/w7B8 > Google Toolbar

P.S. Noticed just now that not all goo.gl URLs I pasted into the post showed up as live links and I had to do it manually, so there may be a problem there.

I think I've seen goo.gl used seven times on ThaiVisa's twitter account georgebkk, then back to bit.ly. Perhaps a problem with the RSS feed via goo.gl to twitter? (Not that I would know how to solve it if it were so)

P.S. Discovered just now that ThaiVisa has a second twitter account: ThaivisaTopics
