To answer; It may be Australian English, or NZ English....but I have not heard the terms, and I would be suprised to since both those countries have not bastardised the original language. We still use the same spelling etc.

Soldiers are in the business of killing. Rape would be considered by most as "the lesser of two evils". Priests are supposed to be helping people, not raping children. You would think there would be more rapists amongst soldiers than priests but that isn't necessarily the case.

Soldiers often turn in there own for things such as rape and murder. Even those Navy Seals accused of punching the insurgent who is accused of burning & dismembering the men in Fallujah, were turned in by one of their own (for punching? geez). For that reason, I'm confident that the soldiers accused of rape are not the "tip" of some iceberg.

I guess it is a misplaced feeling of unity. Seems many folks feel the need to immediately justify an action perpetrated by the government of the country to which they hold citizenship.

They seem to take it personally as if it was they themselves that are being talked about. Although It is not.

I like to think we are individuals & can always watch, learn, decide for ourselves based on looking & investigating both sides.

MAD bankrupted both superpowers. You were lucky we could borrow more money. We haven't paid off ww1 yet. 20,000 nuclear missiles each, when 100 each was enough. And the conventional warfare and its wars really killed lots of innocents. Walking to school past open missile silos (Cuban missile crisis, 1961?) was horrifying.
