I have a friend who is 'stranded' in Phuket in that flights are chockers at the moment. I told her to get the bus but would like to know the Phuket residents recommendation as there's bus services and there's bus services if you know what I mean!

Where to purchase ticket, how much, where to board and where it arrives in BKK would help as she is a newbie (and I don't do Phuket).

Thanks!

I you must take the bus then the 'best' option would be the VIP bus from Phuket to Bangkok. But it still takes about 12 hours of hel_l. Buses leave from the main bus station near the Phuket Royal City Hotel. Departure times from about 07.00 in the mornings and then late afternoon/early evening 15:30, 16:00, 17:00, 18:00, 18:30

I just booked tickets.. No problems..

Sure the ultra bargain air asia seats are full today but theres seats wed.. But Thai air full price was doable.

The best bus is the 24seat VIP and is about 10.5hours of business-class bus travel. However, they're probably full for a few days. Next best is 32 seat VIP, but probably full, too. I once got a 2nd class bus and that WAS hel_l! All of the above go from the bus station to the Southern bus terminal in Bangkok.

An alternative is a Khao Sarn Road bus that would be cheaper, take longer and have a lot of dubious passengers and complaining Islraelis.

I recommend going on 999 bus service. You can call them at 076211480, the office is in a side building at the bus station. 7°53'1.41"N, 98°23'45.90"E or open the attached file in Google Earth.

Those buses also return to bangkok.

Would second the vip 999 suggestion, reasonably comfortable 24 seaters.

Was 2600 in the morning.. Must have sold out closer to the end..

Dont forget Bangkok Air flys U-Tapao and isnt a long taxi ride for east side BKK.. Plus they have a biz class price so expect them to book out less.
