Eat Your Pet

Featured Replies

If you've a believer in the global warming religion, there's a new book for you. "Time to Eat the Dog" by Victoria Univ. profs Brenda and Robert Vale. Briefly the carbon footprint of a german shepard is exactly the same as a large car. Cats have the footprint of a VW Golf. Their suggestion is to have sustainable food pets such as chickens or rabbits, whose footprints are much smaller and they be tasty.

So if you believe in the global warming hocus pocus wealth distribution scheme, it's time to fire up the BBQ and introduce Fido to its warmth and rid yourself of the burden of a carbon footprint equal to that of a large SUV

So if your pro global warming and have a pet and keep it rather than eat it or have it eaten, does that make you a hypocrite? just wondering

So why don't you right wingers commit suicide when you're too old to work rather than become a burden to the beloved private enterprise corporation that was good enough to accept your retirement fund contributions?

Some have gone broke because of this you know. Capitalism could collapse because of people like you.

It sounds perfectly reasonable and sensible. The ridiculous Kyoto Protocol aside.

There is one impediment though that the ivory tower proffessors have not considered, and that is the companionship and relationship people have with pets.

Pets are not just animals for amusement in the raising of.

But I can see their point. A pet pig or lamb would be great.

I LOVE curry lamb and larb moo.

Well, if this global warming thing can be helped by eating the family pet I am buying a pig for my kids. :)

My contribution is to live in a village where family pets often enter the food chain.

Funny how those puppies disappear when they stop being cute.

There's a problem with eating dog. It tends to make one belch, which is not so bad.....what is nasty is the belch smells like dog. You can always tell when someone has had a meal of dog.

About 3 months ago an Auckland man was reported to the SPCA for killing his dog and cooking it. The SPCA had no power to do anything as the dog had been despatched humanely.

It sparked a lively debate here. Of course there were the PETA type nutters that would rather kill and cook the man, but others saw it as no different to the thousands of hand-reeared lambs that are family pets untill they get to hogget size.

I believe cheval is readily available in French butcheries. NZ horse lovers can not bear the thought.

Yesterday I watched a repeat of "The Hunt For Red Oktober". One scene reminds me of this thread. One of the Russian officers, dreaming of the time after his impending defection, said he would marry an American woman, and raise rabbits for her to cook for him.

My problem is with eating an animal that loves you totally and absolutely regardless of how you treat it.

If you can find a horse or a sheep that does that I'll cross them off the menu as well.

I could not kill and eat MY dog.....nor yours because I know it loves it's master. A wild dog, or a domestic dog gone feral on the other hand .......if I was hungry......

Do you mean a specific individual animal, or the entire species?

What I mean is, lets take dogs. Your dog loves you unconditionally, so does that mean ALL dogs are off the menu?

The key word in your argument is "hungry".

That moves a whole slew of goalposts. :)

I eat horse meat - prefer it to beef, much more tender.

But then I was not a horsey person, no pet poney etc. Lamb, beef etc, no problem. But to eat my own "flesh and blood" pet animal - no way. But they say that when a person dies the pet animal would have no problem eating their owner. Earlobes are supposedly the first thing to go - tender.

I've nibbled a few earlobes myself in my time so I can affirm that Patsy.

I'd think firing up the bbq would contribute to the carbon footprint as well. Best you kill it with your bare hands, clean it with a piece of flint you napped yourself and eat it raw.

There was programme on UK TV about dogs and their place in the human world. Cuddling or stroking a dog produces the hormone oxytocin in both the dog and the human. It's a hormone that helps mothers bond with their children.

Oxytocin:

Oxytocin (pronounced /ˌɒksɨˈtoʊsɪn/) (sold as Pitocin, Syntocinon) is a mammalian hormone that also acts as a neurotransmitter in the brain.

It is best known for its roles in female reproduction: it is released in large amounts after distension of the cervix and vagina during labor, and after stimulation of the nipples, facilitating birth and breastfeeding, respectively. Recent studies have begun to investigate oxytocin's role in various behaviors, including orgasm, social recognition, pair bonding, anxiety, trust, love, and maternal behaviors.[1]

Eat your pet you say? Good idea... before they eat me. I was just thinking of a nice pair of crocodile leather boots. Ivan has been getting old and crotchity recently...

And Tabby has already cleaned out the neighbourhood of stray cats and dogs.

At least Mammy kept me in steaks for a number of years.

Bottom line: People cause more negative impact on the planet's ability to provide for the collective 'us' and our chosen lifestyle than our choice to include pets within our family lifestyle. Solution carry out a cull of humans that would otherwise use "our" resources, be it oil, land, food or even water.

The problems with over population we are now seeing can be traced to improvements in health care around the world, not enough people are dying.

Not sure I like the thought of eating my dog, my dogs are not keen either, but human meat is supposed to taste like pork. Stewed Brenda Val and dumplings anyone?

Good point, a walk over to the hot spring, if available in your area, would do the job nicely if a bit slow. I haven't eaten a mammal since 17 Jan. 1969 so I'm not sure of cooking times, but it'd involve the temp of your particular hot spring and the weight of your particular pet. Also whether or not your making stew or pot roast.

No hot spring, you can dry the meat using solar power, just cut into strips and place on a drying rack made of wood strips (small branches)

You are right. But it is not just advances in medicine. Changes in philosophy too, have assisted the world to have such a large population. There were times when the weak, the old, the sick, the deformed...anyone that was a burden, including the socially unacceptable (criminals) would be left behind or despatched.

Eugenics pops up it's head again.

Over population? Naw, just poor land use. If you could take every man, woman and child on the planet and stand them up next to each other, the entire world's population would fit inside Singapore.

But I agree that we are living too long. Too much quantity without the quality.

We could stand a bunch of them in the Stuart desert of Australia. That would solve a lot of problems. :)

Different people have different views on this one. I could never eat dog. I could eat horse, even though I am a horse lover. I have friends who breed Highland cattle, these ones...

They give them names and treat them well, but when it comes to killing and eating them, well hey, that's what they are bred for. I have a freezer full and they are great.

However, why am I so picky about eating dog?

Slab of Lab, baked Beagle, cooked Collie, boiled Bassett, Pointer in a pot, it's all good.

Who's that in the pan tonight, Marie? Och, Angus, that's a wee bit of Hamish in there fer ya.

About the dog eating, I think that i have been shown too many pictures of the dead dog having had his fur scorched off, they just look like stiff, blackend dog like things. You can still see they are dogs. With little doggy faces.

And no, i am not going to post a photo.

If I was trapped on a desert island with a gun, my dog and a politician I know who would end up in the pot when the coconuts ran out.

Another thing

When I was a kid I had a guinea pig, called Piggy. I have a peruvian friend who just can't understand why we keep them as pets.
