I Like Americans Because....

Featured Replies

Going off topic slightly (which this thread has already done anyway).

Where Japan and Germany actually allies during WWII, or was it more a case of them just having a common enemy?

Just curious, I can't seem to find the answer on google.

Yes they were. You can Google "The Berlin Pact" for details.

That's the badger, cheers.

Anyway, back on topic.

I like Americans because they do great ribs.  :)

Germans really have no business talking <deleted> about other countries - considering. :)
General,

The Germans learned their lessons.

You mean we made them disarm. That ain't exactly the same thing. :D

But look at the societies both Japan and Germany were able to develop without a war machine to fund. Imposed or not it seems to have turned out pretty well.

Yes, thanks to America for funding them. :D

I mean the Germans and Japanese (after they were forced to disarm), learned some lessons in humility. We and Israel learned hubris.

That is because they were defeated militarily. That does not mean they would have given up violence voluntarily.

It is kind of strange how you even defend the German and Japanese fascists over America. Are you sure that you are really a pacifist? :D

I like America because

After the non-pacifists killed the Indians, they invited White Western Europeans to join them.

After the Plymouth Colony threw Roger Williams out to die in the snow, he invented freedom of religion, and let Jews build the first synagogue in the New World.

After killing British and Hessian soldiers, they wrote a great Constitution (for white land-holding males) and the Bill of Rights.

After killing several 100,000 of their fellow white countrymen, they freed the slaves and put them in separate unequal schools for the next 100 years, until non-violently freed by a "Negro" Christian pacifist.

After marching to the Halls of Montezuma and stealing a third of Mexico, they let ten million Mexicans in, to clean toilets and cut grass and kill the nation's enemies.

Boy, you'd never know this was the "I like America because..." thread. :)

I like Americans because hundreds of thousands of them paid entrance fees to my tourist attraction business and finally when I sold it, another lump ended in my pockets :)

Thank you America :D

And, thank you for giving me so many nice and kind friends.

I'm not talking some TV members here :D

Of course not. I'm commending their reformed, forced-repentant behaviors for 64 years after their defeats - not their former violent ways. And I'm criticizing Judaism for throwing away the world's longest history of pacifism. And the USA for wars we've waged since 1945.
Should have I included 10 ironic emoticons?

Irony doesn't do well on the internet, although yours was sign posted for only a New York Hour :D emoticon gor the Generals benefit :)

It would be true of any country that no longer went deeply into debt funding a Military Industrial Complex.

Although initially you have to deal with all the soldiers out of work( hard to call it work )

But after that adjustment period yes I see it as a positive for sure...& in many other ways too. :)

I like Americans (at least the son of one particular American mum) for defending America even when the topic is about good things in Europe, and he dismisses European things because the American versions are better.

I like most American citizens because .....I believe in my heart that if they were given the truth they would vote for it with both pen & action.

Yet the hope of that truth being given by those I DO NOT LIKE....who seek to disguise it ... is slim to none at this time. That leaves it to those I do like, to ferret out that truth & act upon it..

A. I agree

B. ....those........"who seek to disguise it"......is that because you think the real powers are hidden; below the surface? In the hands of groups/entities/organizations the administration has no power nor control over or do I misunderstand and miss your point ? :)

Yes & no

Yes I believe the real powers that be, stand back from the front lines we see.

I will even go so far as to say I believe while presidents elect are allowed much rope during campaigning that rope is quickly reeled in once the election is won. Perhaps they actually thought they would be allowed to direct hope & change? Same with the president elect...Show the pictures of Gitmo is it not our right to see what our elected side is doing?

Show the truth behind TARP...show where the money went. Whose money is it ultimately? But no matter which elect it is, they are backed by the same & anyone can verify that by looking at both parties biggest campaign contributors. Not that those contributors are the ones behind the curtain. They too are front men.

Then you also have the obvious ones....The media

Why do they not ( or why are they not allowed) to publish the whole?

When is the time anyone has seen the full story? Cost of both $ & life of occupying a country on both sides?

Every time security is increased freedoms of those who are supposedly being protected are reduced in the name of security.

Again I will say on both sides. Meaning this time both sides of the fight. As is evidenced by the protests of the innocent ones in the countries being occupied now. If even they say ...Leave..Get Out... why then does the military industrial complex not say ok...have it your way ...we leave you to your fate? It is because while we claim we care about their fate it never entered the picture.

Thank you, explaining.

Charles Manson has been pretty good since he has been under supervision too. You should have a lot of good stuff to say about him.

With all due respect, I have to say it, it is becoming more apparent with every recent post that you are much more of an America hater than a lover of humanity.

Same old song & dance......... Agree with EVERY action the US takes or your....anti american/ american hater

Sad but true the ones who believe this rhetoric are the ones who believe least in America & what it once stood for.

Seems many forget America was founded on beliefs that went against a tyrannical government.

Amazing you write this and so true.

A few days ago two (married) gay men flew to the US; one of them has HIV, once contracted in New York some two decades ago.

They traveled before but always secretly and hiding his medication; It was always scary if the Customs would find the medication because that would have meant that they would have been refused to enter the US.

The US had a ban of more than 22 years for people having HIV/AIDS entering the US BECAUSE of the danger of spreading HIV/AIDS as well as for "security" reasons.

Now it has been admitted that this law was incorrect and people with HIV are now free to travel to the US.

Good for them, Good on America and injustice has been reversed.

Boy, you'd never know this was the "I like America because..." thread. :)

PeaceBlondie has spit out nothing but anti American hate and vitriol for several days - but nothing negative about anyone besides America and Israel (even Japan and Germany) - and he is the ONLY one who had to spew typical radical rhetoric and hatred on a thread that was supposed to be for listing positive things about America. Everyone else had something nice to say.

No, you don't know me yet. You don't understand that I only hate war and injustice.

Go back to my long list of what was good and bad about the USA. Look again at John Kay's poem, "Monster." Remember Decatur's full toast, "Our country! In her intercourse with foreign nations, may she always be in the right; but our country, right or wrong." She's still my country. and she's not always in the right. "The phrase is also central to a quote from Carl Shurz, Union Army General: 'My country, right or wrong; if right, to be kept right; and if wrong, to be set right.'” As patriotic Americans, it is our duty to set her right when she is wrong.

It still insults my patriotism that Americans thought it was Godly to burn Asian babies to death. Did you ever chant "Hey, hey, LBJ. how many babies did you kill today?" It was an honest, patriotic question. Notice John Kay's condemnation and his remaining hope:

"Once the religious, the hunted and weary

Chasing the promise of freedom and hope

Came to this country to build a new vision

Far from the reaches of kingdom and pope

Like good Christians, some would burn the witches

Later some got slaves to gather riches

But still from near and far to seek America

They came by thousands to court the wild

And she just patiently smiled and bore a child

To be their spirit and guiding light.."

I'd like to thank the USA for:

Jazz

NASA

Bluegrass

PBS

Rock & Roll

Frank Lloyd Wright

Pioneer, Voyager, etc

Their eventual assistance in WW1 and WW2.

Western Chinese food

The Smithsonian

Andrew Carnegie (The Canadian west is dotted with libraries built by his generosity)

Hollywood

New York City, capital of the world.

The internet

Country music

Doing great things just because. (Tall buildings, landing on the moon, etc)

Coca Cola

Dr Pepper

Hot Dogs

A&W

Mustangs, Firebirds, Camaros, etc.

Ketchup

Nukes (Someone was going to build the first ones. I'm glad it was a friend)

Pickup trucks

Mark Twain

Martin Luther King jr

A detailed list would take a long time. For as much as I can be quick to call the US govt out on their boneheaded ideas, the American people have given a lot to the world. :)

I do not think that I am out of line in the least.

You seem to almost always express a very one-sided, ultra-patriotic opinion in favor of justifying American violence. Violent rhetoric. But you do take care of temple animals well. My original comments in this thread show positive examples of Americans repenting their evil ways. I oppose violence.

I am not really very patriotic, but I like American people a lot and I think that the American Government is no worse than anywhere else and that they try to make the best choices in a lot of no win situations with no truly "good" choices to choose from.

I do tend to mention positive things about the US because so many other people only concentate on the negative.

Sorry if I misunderstood, but I read your list as the usual negative things about the US and sarcasm when you mentioned anything "positive".

Germans really have no business talking <deleted> about other countries - considering. :)

You hold modern Germans accountable for the Holocaust and WWII? That is like a black man holding you accountable for the American slave trade, which I am sure you will claim you had nothing to do with, right? Or are you that old, UG? :D

There are probably millions of Germans alive today that were Hitler Youth age and zero people anywhere on the planet who were involved in the US slave trade. I don't "hold them accountable", just pointing it out. Besides, we American are very forgiving people - as long as you learn to play nice and buy coca-cola & cheeseburgers. :D

Dr Pepper

I'll second that!   :)

Any Germans alive today who were in the Hitler Youth would now be at least 75 years old. I don't think there are millions of 75+ years old Germans even though they are a pretty hardy bunch. Membership in the Hitler Youth was compulsory after 1936.

Many seem to think that at the time, Germans were given the option of whether they wanted to be a part of the Nazi war machine or not.
