Is All This Global Warming B.s. Finally Over?

Featured Replies

I haven't heard much about global warming, er, I mean, climate change, since Copenhagen. What gives? Is it a combination of the record low temperatures and all those emails showing the leading climate change scientists were scamming the planet?

I don't know whether the fear mongering over global warming is a scam or not. But you are aware that record low temperatures could be a result of global warming?

Yeah, I saw that movie where New York City freezes over in a matter of hours. Which is about as factual as anything that came out of the Univ. of East Anglia Climate Research Unit. :)

Record highs here in Adelaide. Second year in a row.

I'm sure that when this global warming debate started that it was pointed out that the extremes in temperature would become more extreme but the over all world average would slowly rise.

But then that wouldn't give people the opportunity to belittle and ridicle what they don't agree with would it?

The problem is that - like many PC issues - something that was merely a theory was promoted as a fact. When it was discovered that its scientific promoters were faking the data, there was a lot of anger by Joe and Jolene Blow towards the tree humping charlatans that are always telling us what to do. :)

And they got rich in the process.

And that's the problem, someone has to earn big and tax big from whatever changes are implemented. You want to curtail global warming or reduce pollution? Boycott products from places like this:

http://www.chinahush.com/2009/10/21/amazin...ution-in-china/

or put a progressive tax on consumption. That's not gonna happen though because consumption and growth of consumption is the name of the game. Just slap a green plastic label on it.

I think the main point is that if nobody can definitively prove the theory either way, and the consequences are potentially dire, then it is better to err on the side of caution. Foolish not to.

Besides, an environment with less carbon pollution is a much nicer and healthier environment. When was the last time someone living in BKK saw stars looking up at night?

It's all one big scam and people like Al Gore and those East Anglia liars should do jail time. That said, the world could always stand to cleaner, that's for sure. When I lived in Washington DC years ago they had something called "Code Red Days". That's when they advise to keep your children inside because the pollution is so bad. On those days members of Congress should be made to walk to work. As bad as it was, it didn't mean the polar ice caps were melting. In fact...

The mini ice age starts here

The bitter winter afflicting much of the Northern Hemisphere is only the start of a global trend towards cooler weather that is likely to last for 20 or 30 years, say some of the world’s most eminent climate scientists.
Their predictions – based on an analysis of natural cycles in water temperatures in the Pacific and Atlantic oceans – challenge some of the global warming orthodoxy’s most deeply cherished beliefs, such as the claim that the North Pole will be free of ice in

summer by 2013.

According to the US National Snow and Ice Data Centre in Colorado, Arctic summer sea ice has increased by 409,000 square miles, or 26 per cent, since 2007 – and even the most committed global warming activists do not dispute this.

The scientists’ predictions also undermine the standard climate computer models, which assert that the warming of the Earth since 1900 has been driven solely by man-made greenhouse gas emissions and will continue as long as carbon dioxide levels rise.

Well this may be a first but....I am happy to say I agree 101% :)

So you're saying it is definitively proven and thus no need to err on the side of caution?

I have seen data, stats, and theories from both sides....as yet, I have not seen any definitive proof to say it was/is a scam.

To "err on the side of caution"? We aren't talking about taking an umbrella with you before you leave the house. The "erring" part might be like building a special covered, air-conditioned walkway from your house to your destination because there is a 10% chance of precipitation. Hmmm. That might be a bit of an exaggeration but I hope you dear readers get the point.

I'm all for a new energy technologies program on a greater scale of the space race of the 1960's. Multiply it several times as it wouldn't be just the USA & USSR taking part in the race this time. Mankind needs it for practical reasons. Not to cripple world economies or line the pockets of corrupt bureaucrats with carbon offset fees and other taxes based on that fear-mongering bullshit about polar bears dying off or the ice caps melting away and flooding our coastal cities. All I need to hear is that the air will be cleaner to breathe, it will be cheaper to fly or drive as well as more efficient, - and we won't need to buy oil from the likes of Iran, Iraq, the Saudis, Russia or Venezuela anymore. Although, I have wondered what would become of those countries if their main (or only) source of revenue lost almost all of it's value? Sure, petroleum is used in the manufacture of many things around us but not to the tune of $80/barrel or probably not even $15/barrel.

No not at all....

It is just that it was presented in the usual hysteria way & many would profit from it of course.

Then there was the scientist who got together & debunked a lot of it.

Same goes for the Carbon Tax here. All it would amount to is the fat cats would buy credits & continue without skipping a beat. But we would all see the higher prices for electricity ...fuel etc.

But most of all I just *feel* In the overall scheme we are very small. Also looking at places like Thailand or SEA for that matter....

Who will reign them in? They still run 2 strokes etc. & unless Gore plans to buy the world replacements it just isn't going to happen.

If they want change then bring it to market. Make it better & cost effective. The rest will take care of itself.

The allegation that "it just isn't going to happen" I agree with. But to adopt the defeatist attitude, to accept potential disaster because you can't see another way....(quite a Thai attitude I find too), is perhaps not wise.

I see your principle. However, the same points you make here regarding money and profit, can also be made for those that oppose the theory; Global warming, if it was to be universally accepted and measures taken, would cost many large companies megbucks. There are BIG financial interests wanting to quell the global warming movement.

I reiterate: Err on the side of caution.

Yes it would. And companies large and small would just pass the cost onto the consumer.
