Featured Replies

Hi Guys,

Moved to Khonkaen recently and am thinking of getting a cheap car just to go to the Market, etc...Was thinking of a Suzuki SJ413 or similar, can anyone advice of any other option below 200K

Cheers,

Fabio

Hyundai, all models, Daewo all models, Opel, Peugeot 306, 405, Seat Cordoba, Older BMs, 318 (squere model, below 1990, 20 year old Japanese Cars, maybe Caribeans or Nissan NV, or whatever, etc. many options, you have to shop arround. Up Country maybe difficult, because they have mosthly Pick Up Trucks, You have to go Bangkok or Pattaya. See at one2car.com or "google" like "Thailand Used Cars" or "Pattaya Used Cars", i'm sure you'll find something decent for a fair price.

There is a 1997 Haundai for sale down the road from me for 80,000 baht. I offered him 40,000 baht and he agreed. But the engine is knackered and there is no dealers in Phuket so I passed. It's been there for a year.

Got a cheapo 5 years ago, hyundai accent, for 220,000 and was 3.5 years old then.Still running strong and very reliable too.

was it a dark metallic brown by any chance?

No. It's forest green IIRC. It was hes nieces or something. He had or has a sky blue one in similar condition as well.

Oh ok... friend of mine back there has a brown one he'd like to sell, thought that was it :) Pretty good car overall, you could always get an engine swap, they are essentially the same chassis as the Mitsubishi Lancers...

If you are happy to avoid the "preferred" brands you can get good bargains.

If its only for pottering around in I would look at the follow.

I got a 78 Mitsu Galant Sigma for 22k bht

I got an 84 Lancer SL in lovely restored condition for 45k baht

and a 1976 Toyota Corona for 35k but spent 16k on rebuilding the Engine from the crankcase bearings up!

All three cars were fine to use on a daily basis. I regularly did 150km round trips in them all without any problems. I drove the Corona to BKK from where its new owner drove it to Samui!

RIDE AROUND THE SIDE STREETS. lots of quiet bargains to be had.

for over 100k I would look at 12+ year old Coronas as they are cheap to live with and very reliable. If you are not much into auto exotica you should avoid rare imports as they can be a faff to get worked on.

Unless you hate the idea of a truck. I'd consider a mighty x toyota pick up with the extra cab. can be had for around 120k up in GOOD condition.

We've got a very solid Suzuki Vitara 1996. Would cost around 250K I suspect. Very reliable cars.

Posts have been removed for flaming. Please keep it civil.

nice cheap 1996 corona for under 200k.

Actually the even older ones from around 90-94 are reallg good value too.

Good luck and post some pictures when you get something... might help others on here too.

95 actually, look like it got a Soluna engine (i guess it was replaced), so maybe a little bit underpowered, but the price is ok.
If you don't mind cost of gasoline too much, the best ever balance between cost and luxury are the '93-'97 Toyota Camrys. Also very easy to maintain and find parts.

Agree!! Try and find a 95 Toyota Camry (They were fully built in Australia at that time and imported to Thailand) Great motor car. The price around Bkk at present is around 150K ....170K Baht

I don't know where you guys allways find those prices. The cheapest one i saw was 185'k for a 94 clunker. If you want one in a fair condition it's allways much over 200'k. Toyota is never chap in Thailand. If someone find one for 150'k in fair condition, let me know.

I have seen a couple both were manual transmission. 155k and 175k
