Motorists warned to avoid inundated areas in Bangkok

BANGKOK: -- Local motorists are suggested to avoid flooded areas in Bangkok today following a heavy rain in the capital this early morning.

Pol. Maj. Gen. Phunu Kerdlapphol, the Commander of the Traffic Police Division, warned today that motorists should avoid such the inundated areas as Din Daeng, Rama IX, Ratchadaphisek, Ramkhamhaeng, Srinagarindra, Sukhumvit, Rama IV, Sathon, Petchkasem and Pinklao due to traffic congestions.

"The heavy rain this early morning has caused temporary blackouts, inundations and paralyzed traffic in the areas. The traffic situation has not yet eased although the rain has stopped. So, motorists should keep away from the areas today unless they have urgent businesses", he told journalists this afternoon.

The heavy rainfalls across the metropolitan areas were caused by the influence of low pressure and strong wind covering the city and other parts of the country, including its eastern, northern and northeastern regions.

There were reports of heavy rain and congested traffic in the eastern province of Chonburi this morning as well, while the province of Khon Kaen in the Northeast and Nan in the North reportedly faced hailstorms, causing damages to dozens of households.

One minute they're complained cos there's no rain, then they're moaning cos there's too much of the stuff, can't win in this town!!

I didn't hear anyone complaining... :o

I just hope that the water catchment areas are getting some of it... and the NE desperately needs it. :D
