I will be hoping to change 30 day visa exempt arrival to non- o ( based on marriage to Thai national ) at the Bangkok Immigration office. Does anyone know what documents I will need to show at Bangkok Immigration ? I already have the marriage certificate, and I will have a letter from my wife asking for the change of visa. Will I need anything else at this stage ? I know that I will require further documentation when I apply later for the extension of stay on marriage basis.

You will need all the documentation as needed to get a 1 year extension based on your marriage, as immigration will only change your visa status to non immigrant after they verify you qualify for a 1 year extension.

Fee is 2000 Baht for the conversion and 1,900 Baht for the extension.

You need at least 21 days allowed in Thailand remaining for the conversion, so will need to do this within 9 days of arrival on the 30 day visa excempt stamp!

As an aside, if you are not able to get the full set of paperwork in order within the first 9 days, at the end of your 30 days you can get a 60 day extension based on being married.

For this only marriage certificate is needed, your wife, and copies of all ID's of both you and the wife ( and 1,900 Baht of course).

This will give you extra time to collect the paperwork/financials without having to leave Thailand at all!

Thak you. Can I apply for a 60 day extension immediately ( as I will be in Bangkok for a couple of days after arrival ), and will that be a 60 day extension to the original 30 days, or just 60 days from the date of application for the extension ? What form will I need to complete to obtain the extension and what documents will be required ?

You normally apply in the last week of you allowed stay.

You do not have to do this in Bangkok, but can do this at the immigration office of the region you are staying.

I assume you need to fill out the standard extension form (T.M.7) and documents as I posted above (marriage certificate, your passport, your wife's ID card and house book, passport sized pictures and 1,900 Baht. And take your wife along.

The 60 days will get added to the 30 days you already have, regardless from when you apply.
