On Friday Afternoon, Police Lieutenant Somshai from Pattaya Police Station was called to a house located in Soi 5 off the Pratamnuk Road in South Pattaya to investigate reports of an assault and theft. Police were met by Khun Wassana aged 26, who works as a maid at the house, owned by Mr. Manfred from Germany. At the time of the incident, the victim was alone in the house and was cleaning when she heard the sound of a motorbike pull-up outside. She went to investigate and saw no one. She walked back into the house and was followed by a Thai Man who proceeded to hit her in the head. He then used a Stun Gun and held it against her neck until she fell to the floor. Her bag, containing 6,000 Baht in cash and other personal items, was stolen but nothing else was taken from the house as the woman screamed for help which forced the assailant to retreat. Police have received a full description of the suspected thief who is being located by Police at this time.

Women are easy targets for thieves. 6,000 baht isn't an unusually large sum of money--maybe for a maid it's a fair amount, but not unusual for someone to carry that amount.

I hope they get the thieves and I hope she gets her money back.

It was a house owned by a foreigner and I am sure they were after more than just her bag.

Perhaps the robber was her drug addict fella. Just speculating, mind.

And maybe she is just an everyday cleaner who cleans a couple of houses and has just had the monthly food money for her 2 kids snatched.......

I've been here for 22 years and one thing I have learnt is not to carry around too much money. I define "too much" as being more than 2 grand. For a Thai (a maid at that) to have 6 grand in her purse is certainly not normal unless she had just (that day/or hour) received her salary. :)

I'm happy for you being in control of your money.....

You have absolutely no idea if it is safe to leave money in her accomodation.......or of her circumstances......there are any amount of reasons why she could be carrying that sort of money.......you just can't apparently think of many......

What's the fascination with how much money she had on her? The woman has been beaten around the head and attacked with a stun gun <deleted>. Hope these thugs are caught quickly and locked away so they can't harm a defenseless hard working woman again.

  • 4 months later...

When working in Jo'burg many years ago I persuaded my African employees to be paid monthly instead of weekly and for their salaries to be paid into a bank account. This was because it was common for gangs of tutsi (gangsters) to work the trains taking African workers back to the Soweto township on Friday evenings and robbing them of their wages. Whether this would be an attractive proposition for Thai workers I could not say particularly as many seem to just live for the day and let Buddha take care of next week.
