Here's a solution. Give all my posts to Old Croc and Lao Po. I don't mind. I would just like to retain access to Bedlam.

I get a bunch of flack for posting so much anyway. :)

You're too kind for words...but so easy said by someone who knows it doesn't happen :D

So far the answer, for whatever reason, is vague and we, members, are treated like children

Where are the answers vague? Database post count needed to be reset. It was done using the most recent parameters, which no longer include deleted posts or any posts in the games/jokes sections. I have posted this myself & it is quite clear imo.

As for you claim of being treated like children, ... Not at all, nearly all other members have been able to accept the explanation maturely & in good faith that it was not a deliberate attempt to upset membership, you though seem intent on stirring up bad feeling for the forum, making demands & repeating questions that have already been addressed in an attempt to force thaivisa to do what, I'm not sure.

Good plan - I'll donate a few hundred if anyone wants some.

Yup, I am in too, cause to celebrate, me and U.G agreeing on something :D

Me too. We can have a charity auction. :D

It's odd that the member in front of me in post count lost exactly the same as I did: 2,000 posts and HE didn't even play around in "Jokes"...

Deleted posts, last word threads, games, who the hel_l knows but do you REALLY think that thaivisa tech guys have the time to pick out you & OC specifically to remove the exact same number of posts? And how can you say for sure the exact number of posts you had when the change was done?. I think you admitted yourself that you didn't know the number for sure. So are you jut blowing this all out of proportion now for your own fun? I think you need a hobby, seriously.

But your message that it isn't a democracy here is a confirmation what many already knew.

It's never been a secret so what exactly is your point or is this an attempt at more stirring?

5,500 posts of quality from Mossy being thrown into the pot, all proceeds going to the Finn household, on account I got served notice of redundancy today.

Burma, Haiti, Redundancy, or post count theft, c'mon lets put them in order of importance.

or is this an attempt at more stirring?

I honestly don't think LP is stirring, I genuinely believe he is upset, but for the life of me, I really don't understand why.

Are the tech guys able to give 2k count to him and take it off mine, I am being serious here.

How would anybody react if 2,000 in money is missing, without an explanation.?

Oh come on, if you really believe that 2k posts from a few years ago equates to monetary terms then imo you really need to just turn off your computor & go outside for a while. See the real world & get some perspective.

LaoPo was talking about the principle Boo, just the principle. If you can't see that, well, I'm shocked. He is just saying what is on his mind (and probaly on alot of our minds) but surprisingly to me, you're giving him the Iron fist approach.

The only thing that has made this forum so popular, is people posting. If nobody posts, there is no forum. Try selling advertising space for a forum that has 2 posts per day. Posts are what made this forum as big as it is and yet now they are treated as if they are trivial.

Sorry to hear it Moss. Maybe Thailand beckons?

I understand that Mr Boj but apart from him & a couple of others no one else is seeing the boogie man in the closet & are continuing to post as usual.

But really, what else does he want said? It happened, truthful explanation as to why given, nothing else can be done. Jog on.

I am not giving the iron fist as I am only expressing my own opinion on this, but I do get sick of reading the continued moaning & yes, In My Opinion, stirring, after all has been said that can be said.

I personally find it to be the act of someone who wants to dig their heels in for no other reason than they cant get their own way. Again, my own personal opinion & quite honestly I am shocked at how much of a big deal it is being made of.

Bit of a broken record here it seems.

Regarding the post asking as to why they were not given advanced notice - simple, it wasn't planned as it was a corruption of the database and had to be repaired. This was done by a complete manual recount of posts based on the aforementioned criteria.

Posts have not been deleted, just the post count has been redone as stated above.

The deleted post from forum support is due to it pointing to the Bedlam forum which would be a dead link to many/most members.

There is no conspiracy, no manipulation being done for SEO purposes, nothing nefarious at all except for a corrupted database which took our main IT guy a long time trying to get back up to some norm.

Some mods and admins have lost post counts also so it is not "targeted" to members only, it was across the board.

//edit - I estimate I lost a couple hundred posts counts also.

I gathered that the majority of banned members bite the dust in the first few posts.

I know of at least one forum in a galaxy far far away where a test of manhood is to come to ThaiVisa and see how quickly you get banned.

And then to go back and complain that you've been banned :)

Sad to hear that Moss :)

I've lost 5,000 posts. They can't all have been rubbish can they? :)

Not rubbish, it just shows you spend to much time in the pub. :D

Thank you MF, I was not stirring and have never been stirring. Boo should know.

The point is that ThaiVisa did NOT inform members about this step before it actually happened.

That's all.

Members were confronted with quite a downkick in post-count and excuse me, but when I asked for a genuine and honest reason at "support" I got a vague answer and I did not understand WHY.

I got some technical explanation about "Jokes and word games" and to be honest I still don't understand WHY posts from years back were canceled.

WHY are posts in certain groups counted for and others are NOT? That is beyond me.

If TV would have taken a little bit of time to explain, this fuzz wouldn't have been necessary.

Members are not to be blamed for the unclear situation.

Once again this man, who's name is a byword for humility and kindness in Chiang Mai, shames us all with his generosity to the less fortunate.

Once again this man, who's name is a byword for humility and kindness in Chiang Mai, shames us all with his generosity to the less fortunate.

So "UlyssesG" means "humility and kindness" in some Chiang Mai / Northern Thai dialect? Didn't know that, thanks...

WHY are posts in certain groups counted for and others are NOT? That is beyond me.

The decision was made ages ago to discount posts in the word games from people's post counts.

The reasoning behind it, I guess, is that some people (for some bizarre reason) actually see some value in a public display of the amount of times they've posted on a Thai-focussed web forum. For most normal people, of course, the opposite is true and the higher this number is, the more embarassing it is for them. But, those who like to make this number higher would make it increase by posting endless very short posts in word game threads.

well sorry laopo but if you were unable to understand or read the numerous posts explaining what happened & why then that is hardly the fault of thaivisa. Members were advised what happened, nearly all understand the reason & nearly all have moved on without the need to keep dragging it up & demanding answers that don't need to be given.

WHY are posts in certain groups counted for and others are NOT? That is beyond me.

Why do you need to know this or more importantly why do you think this should be public knowledge?

It is related to the inner workings that keep the forum running & as with numerous other system functions, are not of public interest but FYI the decision to remove games/jokes from the post count was a direct result of complaints from members, some of whom have posted here.

http://www.thaivisa.com/forum/Separate-For...jokes&st=50

The decision was also made to stop trolls from lesser forums reaching 500 posts quickly by racking up post count on one word or joke threads & therefore access bedlam.

But yeah sure, it's all a conspiracy against poor little you.

Thanks to all the charity workers among you who very generously offered to give me their posts, but no thankyou.

I think the offers were really tinged with irony, and not with any real sense of giving. And if you couldn't see that my complaints were about principal, not post counts, then perhaps I should try to remember to be a little more nurturing to you when I post here, and not assume you understand basics.

If I really gave a stuff about my count I would be in the 10 -25,000 bracket with many others of similar or less longivity.

I guess my main gripe is about communication, and the lack of it in this case. I'm sure there is more to all this than just a forum upgrade, but it is not my place to push it any more. Whats done is done and apparently won't/can't be undone.

Moving on.

Just a note about my post in Forum support: I did think twice before putting in the link to here, but decided most people with the post count losses would be elegible for Bedlam anyway and perhaps by sending many of those here it might enliven the place a little.

Well said. :)

Bizarre indeed!

It's been quite revealing to see which members have their knickers in a twist about all of this triviality.

Shaddap you face, I love the sight of twisted knickers.

On this matter you have a point.

Shaddap you face, I love the sight of twisted knickers.

LOL

Plenty of your sort on the net. Isn't it more about the sniff than the sight though? :)

It's been quite revealing to see which members have their knickers in a twist about all of this triviality.

Indeed, one is always suspicious that some of our fellow members have a screw or two loose, but it is hard to be sure when you can not see how they conduct themselves on a daily basis. From now on, maybe we should reduce everyone's post count every once in a while just to see what happens. :)

Now, that I find plausible, thank you. :)

did you see tywais post on the last page?

And as soon as the forum was back up & running the first post had been made asking what happened & answers were given. Not sure what else you'all think should have been done more.
