Maybe a quick post in here pre-empting the inevitable questions would have been an idea?

Shaddap you face, I love the sight of twisted knickers.

LOL

Plenty of your sort on the net. Isn't it more about the sniff than the sight though? :)

Anyone who knows me would be aware I was speaking literally AND figuratively.

did you see tywais post on the last page?
Regarding the post asking as to why they were not given advanced notice - simple, it wasn't planned as it was a corruption of the database and had to be repaired. This was done by a complete manual recount of posts based on the aforementioned criteria.

And as soon as the forum was back up & running the first post had been made asking what happened & answers were given. Not sure what else you'all think should have been done more.

Fair point.

Perhaps the one thing though that could have been done differently was for a mod or admin to have started a thread themselves, explaining what had happened and why, rather than leaving it for the members to discover and wonder. Perhaps though it all happened too suddenly / quickly for anyone to think about this? Or perhaps nobody thought it was important? Seems that sadly it very much is for some people here.

Good to hear. For a minute there i had you down as a pervert.

Hold on a sec....

Sharecropper started a thread a couple of weeks ago about Bedlam, and in the OP, do I recall he alluded to status with number of posts?

Strange coincidence that this post-count event has occurred just after he brought up that angle.

My conspiracy theory is that Sharecropper is actually not a newbie, but an undercover mod. :)

Beware what you say in PM to Sharecropper!

Oh no, he and I have been in contact. Do you think that he will reveal my S&M fantasies about Boo and sbk? :)

mossy, so sorry to hear about your redundancy, that is bad news indeed. :)

s&m fantasies UG? join the queue. :D

I'm sure that even though it is an unfortunate event, Moss & the family will make the most of it. When one door closes another opens & sometimes an opportunity for the better presents itself when you least expect it :)

well sorry laopo but if you were unable to understand or read the numerous posts explaining what happened & why then that is hardly the fault of thaivisa. Members were advised what happened, nearly all understand the reason & nearly all have moved on without the need to keep dragging it up & demanding answers that don't need to be given.
WHY are posts in certain groups counted for and others are NOT? That is beyond me.

Why do you need to know this or more importantly why do you think this should be public knowledge?

It is related to the inner workings that keep the forum running & as with numerous other system functions, are not of public interest but FYI the decision to remove games/jokes from the post count was a direct result of complaints from members, some of whom have posted here.

http://www.thaivisa.com/forum/Separate-For...jokes&st=50

The decision was also made to stop trolls from lesser forums reaching 500 posts quickly by racking up post count on one word or joke threads & therefore access bedlam.

But yeah sure, it's all a conspiracy against poor little you.

Thank you for your kind explanation; you're so sweet at times, non-poor little you :D I don't understand your itchy attitude towards me since we've always been friendly, also in private correspondence, between you and me. Giving a kind answer is also an art I suppose.

1. I never noticed the move from "City?" and "Place?" to another forum; this is the first time I see so when I opened your link. That explains my further absence in those topics; good for me, otherwise my post count would have been even lower :D

But also interesting to see that a request from a poster with 21 posts and a last post on May 20, 2008, was honoured after he wrote:

"who's in charge here? will our wishes be granted, or what?" :)

But it shows that the sub forums à la Word Games are no success so I conclude, since 12 out of the 19 topics are from 2008/09;

2. I understand a lot better now and it must have been indeed a big job to recreate the corrupted database as Tywais explained, and do all the recounting by hand. What a mess it must have been.

Again, thank you for your kind explanation Boo. Most appreciated.

LaoPo

Your avatar is having unforseen side effects. :)

Do you really assume they were unforseen?? :D

It's odd that the member in front of me in post count lost exactly the same as I did: 2,000 posts and HE didn't even play around in "Jokes"...

<snip.

Hi LaoPo. If you click on the "Find Member's Posts" in the drop down menu next to your name, you will see that you have 479 pages of posts, on each page 25 posts, the last page has 2 posts. So you have [(478*25)+2] posts logged = 11,952 posts. Your current post count displayed is 10,300.

So you made 11,952 - 10,300 = 1,652 posts in the "unworthy games" threads.

I must've made about 500. :)

With regards to discounting posts, I reckon any post less than 10 words - and I've made quite a few - ought to be discounted.

As a result of this debacle I now suffer from post-traumatic loss disorder.

Some have aquired traumatic post-loss disorder.

If that were the case pat pong would go down to half his post count! :D

Can anybody find a reason to take more posts off people's post count? That was fun! :)

If TV wants to tidy up the forum to gain some sort of dignified status, fair enough, but to just wipe out many thousands of individuals efforts retropectively is a very poor way to treat your customers!

I strongly call upon fair Justice and a turnaround of this decision by the board of ThaiVisa.

I concur. Personally, I think it's disgusting.

the Germanic Klingonic Empire Reich expresses its utmost displeasure and resents as well as rejects the politically incorrect reasons presented by Ambassador Boo. the Ambassador is therefore unkindly requested to attend an enquiry held by the Germanic Klingonic Reich's High Council set for february 29th, 2010 at 25.55 hours (sharp!) local Kronos time.

failure to attend shall be considered an affront which will cause multiplanetary negative consequences and a renunciation of Ambassador Boo's exequatur in the Alpha Quadrant.

:)

You may both touch my robes. :D

sometimes (very rarely) the General shows that he possesses humour :)

Ditto for Khun Naam. :D

For the next experiment they should start messing with member's join date. :D

If people hold their post count in such high regard (high enough for some to equate it to being like money!), i wonder how highly treasured length of membership proves to be...

Believe it or not.... it's not uncommon for forum members (not necessarily here) to put their identity back on the shelf and rejoin under a new name.

I suppose it has it's attractions, all old alliances and enmities disappear and you have the opportunity to start again. Every time an obviously very experienced newbie makes an appearance I go hmmmm...... now who are you? :)

My modest post count of 1,023 was reduced by a percentage of 0.98% to 1,003 and I'm still sleeping well, thanks.

I've found that flinging myself on the bed and weeping bitterly for several hours when deprived of something works wonders.

This whole lost postcount debarcle has shown various interesting sides of the personalities who reside here.

For those of us who were most affected by the administrative error, first queried it and then complained about our perceived great losses, perhaps we could do with a reality check. We need to stop treating the forum as an important part of our lives. People here are not family, they really don't give a stuff if we live, die or have hours of our toils suddenly stripped away. We should, as was so crudely pointed out, "get a life".

For management, they should learn to value their customer base a little more. Members and their posts are their lifeline, and have been responsible for the forum growing to be the largest and most valued in the region. An explaination should have been forthcoming before the queries started, and when it was obvious it couldn't be rectified perhaps an apology may have helped the situation.

For those who regarded the complaints as a personal insult against themselves ( :) ), and launched bitchy, nasty, sarcastic attacks against the complainers should, perhaps more than anyone else, look inwards at their own personalities and take stock.

For the heroes and humourists who think that making empty pledges and never ending lame, not so punny, posts about the whole situation, while pretending they don't care nor even know how many posts they have, should give it a rest and move on.

For those who stayed out of the whole thing (perhaps some realised that there, but for a push of a button, could be you) I applaud your commonsense and good judgement.

Sorry Old Croc, as possibly the worst offender there I appreciate the joke has worn a little thin. :D :D :D:)

Very good post, agreed on all counts.
