Electrician In Surin

Can anyone recommend an electrician in Surin who can re-wire a house that was wired improperly? I need someone who understands grounding, hot and neutral polarity, etc. -- nothing special, just the usual (in the West) practices for safe wiring. Thank you in advance for your assistance.

Dear haroldc, I'm afraid it would not be easy to find a competent one of your standard. What I would like to recommend to you is hiring a local one (make your best pick), buy him the materials, fittings and perhaps some small tools, then give him a close supervision. Oh, it is a good idea to explain to him what you want before starting his job. Some simple diagram would help minimising arguments and confusion. Having done this you will be able to control cost and can be hopeful to get it done more or less up to the safety standard. Good luck to you.

OK first off, from what I know in Thailand you only get a 2 wire supply, live and neutral a TN-C supply. You can create your own earth/ground through the neutral called a TNC-S supply and drive an earth/ground rod at your property, but I don't know if this is allowed in Thailand as if you lose the neutral supply upstream to you, everything metal becomes live, this is strictly controlled by power companies in the UK.

The other way is to create a TT system, which is to install an earth/ground rod at your property, this is what I believe is done in Thailand, and run a wire from that to your distribution panel earth/ground bar and connect all your circuit protective conductors to that, but then you must fit a main 30 milliAmp RCD and seperate overload protection or seperate RCBO's to every circuit for earth fault protection. As long as you have an earth fault loop impedance path of <1667 ohms at the furthest point of every circuit you are good to go. However I don't know of anybody offering these testing procedures, this is something I have been contemplating starting a little business in. Bear in mind all metallic parts must be connected to the earth/ground bar in your panel.

As for polarity, where you have socket outlets that will recieve 2 pin plugs plugged in, in any direction you are pretty much buggered with that, although it could be done correctly on your lights.

Hope this helps,

John.....

This would only work if you know how it should be done yourself, in which case you would probably do it. I've done some wiring in the UK bit I wouldn't know how to provide an earth although I do know enough to get scared whenever I see Thai electrical standards. I have seen discussions on here regarding electrical safety in Thailand written by people who obviously understand these things. The search for "good electrician Surin" suggestion by SantiSuk would be your best bet I think.

I know a very clever Electrician in Surin (nr to Huay Senning).

He correctly remidied the incorrect wiring of my two electric showers in my home in Surin.

PM me if you want details. He does speak a bit of Engrish too!
