Ob/gyn

Because of the smokey season in Chiang Mai, my wife and kids will be staying Hua Hin during March. My wife will be 8 1/2 months pregnant and is expect to have the baby in early April in Bangkok. In the event that there is an emergency or early labour, can anyone recommend the name of a good ob/gyn in Hua Hin or even what hospital would be the best choice?

try contacting your embassy.

people there have a lengthy list of board certified ob/gyn and other specialists.

my ob/gyn, heart bypass specialist et cetera are chosen from that list. besides, it is free.

the list is free.... but their services certainly are not.... LOL

but then you have the peace of mind that.... whatever comes.... it will be done just like at home.... LOL

earl, there are no decent medical services in Hua Hin. I wouldn't trust a stray cat to care there.

If your wife wants to give birth to your baby in Bangkok, I think she should already be in Bangkok when 8 1/2 month pregnant. I speak of experience, our first one was expected at the end of the month, but two weeks before at 6pm my wife began to feel contractions. At 9.30pm our son was born. Forget Hua Hin, as PeaceBlondie said there is no decent hospital (yet). There are hospitals in Phetchaburi though, if you can't make it to Bangkok in time, but they can't be compared to the ones in Bangkok.

Well even if they have the time to go to Bangkok, it still means having to travel from HH to BKK at a late stage of pregnancy. This is something I would avoid altogether, because trains are very slow and buses are not direct, so it's a tiring journey. Unless you have your own car, the only convenient means of transportation is by minivan, but it can be a bumpy ride and you don't want the baby nicknamed Toyota.

I know a couple of people who have had babies at Petcharat Hospital in Petchaburi. They seemed to be satisfied with the OB services there. That's about a 45 minute drive north of Hua Hin.

You can add me, my daughter was born at Petcharat. It all went fine, nice room and everything. Our son was the expensive one in the family, as he was born at Samitivej hospital. Of course both hospitals can't be compared, but we already knew this when we made the choice to move from BKK to Cha-am.

Thanks for the comments. My wife is having a c-section which usually happens two weeks before the due date so we're assuming that we'll be fine. We'll be in Bangkok three weeks before the due date. I'll look into Petcharat as an emergency backup just in case she does go into labour early. Thanks.

my grand niece wanted to go c too about 10 days ago. but i told her absolutely not?

she protested that her personal physician, an ob/gyn and her staff stuggested and insisted that it woudl be the best avenue for the mother and baby et cetera....?

i called the chief and asked.... what were some of the abnormalities that necessitated c...?

was the heart rate et cetera of the baby so very abnormal et cetera....?

to my horror, i discovered that there was absolutely no abnormal sign.....

but it would be quick and easy for the med staff to just delivery by c.... besides, the family would also be required to pay 10k cash to you know who.... for this procedure, in addition to ordinary ob expenses.... did you ask if you have to pay personal attribute (how much?) to the surgeon performing c....?

earl, i do not want to discourage you from your decision but did you ascertain already that c is a medical necessity for your wife....?

in my grand niece case, last monday early morning around 4:30 am, the male child was born absolutely gorgeous and without any medical complication whatever.... praise Him....

however, the mother was stitched up internally in three different places just to make sure that everything would be restored to its former stage.... <well, that was how she told her ladylike story.... and everyone visiting just cracked up roaring....> lol

Thank Nakachalet for your questions. This is our third baby and because of complications in a previous delivery, this baby must also be delivered by c-section. Trust me, we've explored all options. My wife is a nurse and her close friends are midwives. We certainly do not have a preference for c-section but it is required in our case. I am also aware that Thai doctors often lean towards c-sections as they are quicker and more profitable.

We're heading down to Hua Hin next weekend and will be there until March 26th. Thanks to everyone for the information about Pecharat. Our doctor in Bangkok also recommended this hospital for the weekly check-ups prior to our due date and as a back up in case there is an emergency.
