Just had my free 1000km service on my new Toyota Vigo.

Toyota recommended an engine oil change (oil at my cost) which I had but I noticed from the invoice that they didn't change the oil filter.

Isn't this a bit like putting old underwear back on after a clean shower or reusing a condom. I wouldn't have considered this world's best practice.

Any experts out there that could shed some light on the pro's and con's of this practice.

Thanks

So what exactly did you get for free at this service?

All first services should be, change oil and oil filter.

Perhaps that was why it was free. They did bugger all. :)

The "free service" included checking battery and all other fluid levels and "fixing" anything that was forgotten in the factory.

They actually did adjust the hand brake......

The reason they gave for the recommended oil change was to flush away anything that Somchai left in the engine during component hand assembly. This would increase engine life.

Not changing the filter would still leave 10% of the oil contaminated with Somchai's "plaa raa" covered fingers in the system.

Obviously the mark up on a replacement filter compared to that of oil is not enough to warrant changing.

Your right DigitalBanaa obviously the oil change is only a money making exercise.

Tomorrow I will go back and will insist that they do the job properly and change the filter..... and the oil again. No point in being lackadaisical where "plaa raa" is concerned. I will report back!

Thanks for the reply guys

alll car manufactorers say its not needed to change oilfilter on 1000km. only some recomend to change oil.

in europe first oilchange for BMW, Benz, VW and Audi diesel is at approx 30k km. sensors decide exactly when.
