I heard about Corporate Customer having ADSL in Issan (Kon Kaen or Nong Kai), but not for 1 MB ... you are full of cash man ...

With your telephone number, contact TA/TOT or other providers (http://www.adslthailand.com, sorry in Thai) to check if they have rolled-out the infrastructure in your area.

Next would be the ISP ... not sure if their network architecture at the POP will support too many broadband user ...

Last or other option would be IPSTAR ...

Good luck !

I actually want it for my home.

I'm used to having it in the UK (reasonaly priced at about THB 3000 per month-unlimited access, free modem, domain name,250mb webspace with all the trimmings) but from what I've seen it is exremely expensive in Thailand (even for crabby 256kb). I cannot check the telephone number....don't have one-I use mobile. I would only bother having a landline for the internet....chicken and egg.

Forget it. IpSTAR is the only choice. I was talking to another guy from that area yesterday. He says the service sux, and that I should make myself available to go down and do the installs from Chiang Mai. If the money is there I will do so. PM me if you want to talk about it.

There are rumours at TT&T and someone else are looking at ADSL, and there have been a few brochures futtering out of the tight fists of a couple of our hardware providers.

Best of a bad bunch is IpSTAR, and in spite of breached undersea cables in the south, it appears to be working. ADSL is definitely available in the middle of the city but seems to be 512 not 1Mbit, but irrespective of what they say a line is, it rarely comes close to the nominal rates.

Depending on what you need it for, we may be able to provide suggestions for best plans and/or options.

PM me if you want to get into case specifics related to your needs.

512 would do at a pinch. What do I need it for? Well, I have had ADSL @ 1mb for ages and just got used to it. I regularly download and upload large files (10's of mb) probably as a result of having 1Mb rather than for a need to.

I have seen some websites for ADSL in BKK and just wondered about Udon. But even in BKK I have not seen a reasonably priced service or indeed a reasonable ISP. As I stated previously, I get everything for THB 3000 in the UK. Unless there is an equivelent then I don't think I will particulary bother. ADSL is nice but there are better things to spend my money on! :o

For 3000/3500, the best you get is 128K/64K, (download/upload), unlimited.

For 6000/8000, you get 256K/128K, unlimited.

Example of Promotion:

This service is very, very limited and at least one of my tech contacts has it adn hates it because it is so off and on. IpSTAR on the other hand seems to be generally stable, not 24/7 though but if properly installed, not too bad.

We have it at 2 sites, one of which is superb, the other much like a wifes nightie.. I am currently researching how this was achieved but naturally I am having difficulties with IpSTAR themselves, though to be fair, they are trying.

I have been told that there will be ADSL available in central Chiang Mai in the next few weeks, but naturally, since blue doesn't suit me, I am not holding my breath.

I think from the gist of this and the other thread is that ADSL is fairly unreliable. It concerns me, though, that - for what is supposedly a premium service (look at the prices) - the service is so poor. I am rapidly coming to the conclusion that perhaps I will have to wait another year or two before Thailand has a more reliable infrastructure. Perhaps they should employ more farang to sort it out properly!!! The Thais do seem to want to run before they can walk!
