Born In Thailand

Featured Replies

My son, was born here in Thailand 22 years ago to a Thai Mother.

They went to live in europe when he was 10 years old. He has been back frequently on a tourist visa. He speaks and read Thai fluently.

He never had a Thai passport.

He now wants to come back to work here.

Can he get a Thai I.D. card on the grounds he was born here??

If yes, what kind of visa would he need??

If no, what then??

Thanks

Firstly you will need his original Thai birth certificate.

Your son can then apply to the Thai Embassy for a Thai passport.

It will be best if his mother accompanies him, to show her passport and

household papers, to support his application.

With a Thai passport he can travel to Thailand without a visa.

On arrival he will need to register at the Amphur office where the family is based.

Again he will need a close relative to support his registration.

Once registered he will receive a Thai id card and can take up employment.

Please note that at age 22 he is liable for miltary service in Thailand.
