5 Farang Bar Owners Arrested In Phuket

Just read in phuket gazzette that 5 farang bar owners were arrested late at night on raid on many bars in the kata/chalong ares of phuket....deemed to be working in their own bars......withour permit but protesting only having a drink....maybe best to let wifes/gf,s run bar and drink in other bars!!! oooh to be bar owner!!Is this a new crackdown or same old !!!????

I noticed the other night,in a popular Pattaya sports bar,the farang owners were working behind the bar,doing the checks and serving drinks.I assumed they had work permits to permit this,but its not often you see this

Probably not as it is an occupation that is restricted to Thai nationals only.

I heard of a guy that went in to do the paperwork while his wife was sick and the hostile to him Thai bar owner next door called the cops in.....I believe he was deported for a breach of his visa.

i know of a bar were the farang owner is cooking a bbq every night

told him he was out of his mind, there are a number of thai managed bars nearby and i'm sure as soon as there is a conflict, the sh1t will hit the fan

If you own a BAR....never, never drink there. (Unless you pay for the drink)

In the last 2 nights the boys in brown have been touring Patong and checking that all bars have only spirits that have the Thai tax seals on it.. For Scandinavian bars owners its very common to sell 'Turkish Pepper' (AKA black vodka / Black Death / Etc) or 'fishermans friends' shooters which are crushed sweets left to melt in the bottles.. Bars found with these were fined per bottle..

One Tiger bar owner had a customer give him a Creme de Monthe bottle about a year ago.. Put it behind the bar and clean forgot about it.. Busted..

If the bar was legit they would also pressure the work permit angle and it seemed as though the owner had to be on the outside of the bar rather than behind it..

Personally with all the bad news and difficulty bar owners have had this season, the quiet of town currently, new entertainment licence costs, etc.. You would think that the powers that be would consider giveing a little slack at this time rather than create more problems !!!

If this guy is the one I saw cooking in karon the other night, maybe he should think of smiling while he cooks. His unfriendly looks scared 4 potential customers in my group away.
