Dear All,

I would like to introduce the Tiger/Sachs Club.I am also known as mbox (and variations of those and other letters :) ). After some talks with Thaivisa we found good ways to cooperate, and most importantly the possibility of bringing up-to-date info about Tiger & Sachs Bikes to you.

Tiger Sachs Club (tigersachsclub.com) was initially started as a "thank you" gift to Tiger Motors for some outstanding service that I personally received on my boxer ….a forum for Tiger & Sachs Bikers did follow ( Tiger and Sachs being discussed there but not exclusively and meanwhile there is much more),finally a online Shop was added where one can order Tiger & Sachs Bikes right at home delivered to your home (or nearby town) . Not sure if there is another online shop where you can order Motorbikes online in Thailand -it is possibly the first one. All this can be done in English and with ongoing support. In fact some Tiger/Sachs Owners who had been buying their bikes from dealers but where dissatisfied by their service or simply having communication barriers, turned to Tiger Sachs Club and got the help needed.

Tiger & Sachs Bikes have a relatively small marketshare and often even "unknown" in Thailand, the best known Bikes from them are the Police Boxers (Tiger Boxer PX 200) which should be around 100.000+ units nationwide by now .

Tiger & Sachs Motors is often considered a low-tech Company but that doesn't mean that it isn't an interesting & viable option for everyone to get some solid, decent Bikes that are well priced made right here in Thailand , Samut Prakarn . There have been discussions about Tiger & Sachs Bikes in the past here on Thaivisa, some turned into "hot- discussions" often caused because different type of bikes where compared, another times because a lot of guessing was done .

If there are any specific questions that need a clear and correct answer you are welcome to ask and shall be replied too as soon as possible …..if the answer is not known it will be established by contacting Tiger/Sachs Motors first and i post it here.

I do post in my best knowledge and understanding …in the event that I have things wrong or misunderstood, I shall stand corrected.

I hope we have some interesting and healthy discussions here for everyone's benefit.

Happy trails,

Tiger Sachs Club / Mbox

Hi there ...how many km's did you do on it? What is the cosmetic part that is missing/outdated? I see everyday at least 2 jokers passing at my house...seem to work as any other scooter...with a great sound.

The metal ring that holds the speedometer etc has been replaced twice (the whole unit) and needs to be replaced again. I have never seen one that wasn't rusted on a bike that had an owner. Also every plastic piece that has the chrome film on it is speckled with oxidation.

I have about 50k kilometers on it and ride it daily. It sits about 2 inches higher than other bikes and is a comfy ride!

Congratulations on your reappearance. No doubt your posts will continue to generate unfair criticism, but at least no one can can say your topics are not lively. What is it about m'cycles that generates so much rancour among bikers?

Myself, I am really interested in the X-Road 250. Been following progress (or lack of) for what seems like ages. I even added the Tiger website to my favorites so it would be easy to check in from time to time, but still no joy. Anyway I am in the process of buying a house now so my motorbike dreams will have to be put on hold for the time being. Probably a good thing because if the X-Road is launched, by the time I am ready to buy, all the bugs will have been ironed out.

Mbox. Have Tiger thought about putting the sidecar on a 250rs. With standard front forks for better turning that may be interesting.

Hi Allan,

Actually this was someone's request about 2-3 weeks ago...and yes it is possible to have the retro sidecar mounted on the 250 RS ...but once again it is best to order it as rig. Mounting the sidecar later requires the bike come back to factory to do the necessary changes to be able for mounting the sidecar. I am still hoping that one day they come with a "vintage-style" bike that has the BMW R26 looks...and mount that retro sidecar . BMW R26 had btw a single Cyl 250 cc and 18 hp's...the boxer 250 RS specs are appr. the same.

I am pretty sure that Tiger will continue on the "Classical Series" and some follower to the Retro will be coming in the future too...what it is and how it looks remains to be seen.

Thank you & i can't tell you what causes the rancor...it's probably more than just one reason and i am not going to analyze them now :)There is some thread initiated by CMX discussing this issue

Great to see you around on Tiger/Sachs website too .

Same here....i will get myself the X-road 250 and hope it will be available soon. I done my testride and was really happy with it- the power was not particular high but adequate for me ,i found. The one thing i like is to sit high on the bike but the X-road i tested was adjusted to sit low...probably to make it fit all kind of testers really. Hope your house is turning out fine and without too many headaches...i had this chapter about 2 years back.

So Tiger will actually do the mounting and mods for you ..... interesting. Do you know if you buy them new, as a factory set-up, whether it is registered as one, like the Retro? That could be great news.

I am thinking of getting a Retro & sidecar as a "toy", but am a bit worried about it being a bit underpowered, so I was thinking of buying the sidecar separately and mounting it on a 250 (a good Kawasaki Estrella or a Honda GT250 Clubman would be about right); if the 150TT is really coming out later this year, as it is rumoured to be, and it could be registered as a rig, it could be more fun mounting the sidecar on that! As long as the pegs and the bars weren't too boy racer-ish, or they could be changed easily, it could be a really stylish combo.

JOHN - JUST GOT THIS MESSAGE THIS MORNING FROM TIGER/SACHS CLUB - MAY SAVE MBOX SOME STEPS

1) the correct price for 250RS is 72000 thb and the sidecar is 19900 THB.

2) The Bike would be legal both ways with and without sidecar...but it needs to be first as rig to initial register. Furthermore ,as advise, the sidecar is not meant to go on high speeds plus to detach the sidecar is not really easy.

3) Approx 4 weeks delivery time

4) Saddlebags as on the retro should be fitting under the seat i will send a picture of this shortly.

5) Can offer the Topcase painted in matching color to the Bike

6) Deposit ( to tiger motors bank account) on for ordering would be 50 % (it is a special order, regular order require 20% deposit) and the rest (50%) will be asked for on Factory confirmed delivery date.

Hope this answers all questions .

Kindly advise if you wish to order,

with best regards,

Hi CMX , thanks- yes it did save me some typing :) just would like to add that the sidecar needs to be registered when the new bike is initially registered to make it all legal ...if you want to add it later it is legally not possible.

About the TT150 the "rumor" of having it released this year was actually coming from Tiger Motors, however, plans did change and it is postponed, at the moment there is no date but unlikely this yesr, possibly sometime next year. Will keep you posted about the developments.

I've been over at ADV and have been looking at the leaning sidecars. Now that would be an excellent rig for the 250rs as you can remove it in about 10 mins. and the bike still leans. sounds good to me. if i had more (some) money i would look into that.

Welcome back mbox! Missed you on ThaiVisa.

Say, I would very much like to order one of those Tiger Retros with sidecar for my staff- Saw it at the Bangkok Motor Show and it would be dam_n cute and economical for my staff to run orders to the post office. My son loved it as well-

spacer.gif040410RetroSideCarSm.jpg

Anyway- I seem to recall that we can order Tiger motorcycles via your Tiger-Sachs forum but I'm not finding the page... Can you help? Would be most grateful for any info about price(s) colors and how to place an order. Not sure if Tiger has them in stock but I'd like to get one before I travel to the US at the end of the month. My staff are going to try and get drivers licenses tomorrow. (I told them I will only buy the Retro if they have valid licenses). Typical Isaan girls they've never had a license in their lives! icon_lol.gif As soon as one of them gets a license I will order the Retro with sidecar.

Thanks so much!

Tony

CMX and MBOX,

many thanks for all the help. Tempted though I am by both the Retro and sidecar, because its available now, and the Kawasaki Estrella 250 and Retro sidecar because it would probably be better but definitely be illegal, and despite my disappointment about the TT150 release being delayed, I am going to wait and go for a TT150 with sidecar the day the TT150 is released. Great style, a bit more power, and 100% legal, its got to be worth the wait.

The BMW-style 250 plus sidecar would also be worth waiting for, but by the time that's out I may have worn out the TT150.

Thanks again,

John

In my understanding, it must very easy to install the 135cc engine (same, same) in the Retro with sidecar. That seems to have enough power for 3 people. Yesterday I saw a 3wheeler motorbike (2front, 1 rear) with backwards gear. Has the Retro also 1?

At the current setup the brakes are hardly sufficient on my Retro/sidecar as it is, so if you want a bigger engine you will definitely need better/bigger brakes as well. The power I find adequate, good toque and top speed properly around 70 km/h.

Du you mean reverse gear, no it doesn't have it but not really a problem due to low weight empty and it can turn on a dime. :)

I also wouldn't suggest a stonger engine on the retro, it is simply not for high speeds. I did suggest to make it with telescopic front and bigger drum brakes as option. But it is unlikely to happen. In all honesty i found riding the retro without sidecar the brakes strong enough...sure you won't make stoppies but it really takes a bit time to get accustomed of the uplifting force from the retro "anti-dive" it took me about 300km to get used to this. I never drove the retro with sidecar so i can't judge on this. The Retro's engine gives a good power and nice torque and even without sidecar i wasn't riding much more than a 70 really.

A reverse gear is really not needed for the Bike even with sidecar it is low in weight.

Hey Everyone,

Just want to share with you how easy it has been to order a Tiger Retro 110 with Sidecar!

I went to the Tiger-Sachs website last night and filled out the online order form.

Received a phone call today that the bike is in stock and ready to ship.

Filled in another order form (a bit redundant but oh well) and transferred the payment and the bike will be delivered to my office tomorrow!

How is that for efficiency?! Another 1000 Baht and Tiger will take care of all the paperwork and registration- awesome!

I've never bought a vehicle on the internet like this and must say it's amazingly simple and efficient.

Even though the bike isn't really for me I'm quite excited to receive it tomorrow and look forward to taking my son for a spin in the sidecar.

Never seen one of these on the road yet here in Thailand so no doubt it will turn some heads.

I'll keep you posted on how the delivery goes and my impressions of the Retro as well.

Thank you mbox for your kind assistance in making this a very easy and enjoyable purchase!

Warm regards,

Tony

Dear Tony,

Thanks for completing that Order and it was a positive coincident involved for getting the Retro w/sidecar in such short notice too. It was also good that you could respond on emails/pm's very fast. Tiger Factory will be closed over songkran soon and no bike will leave the factory then...lucky you get yours just before they close for the festival.

About the PO Form and online order form...i made the online order form, but Tiger Motors wants their PO form being used...the day where they accept my online order form will be coming soon :)

Tomorrow around noon you shall have your Retro w/sidecar .... hope you enjoy it and we look forward for pics with your son too...

Need to correct something.

usually the registration fee is 1000 thb for 2 wheeled bikes the retro w/sidecar would normally be 1500 THb but the info came through late and Tony you saved yourself this 500 THB on this.

Thats a couple of "Tiger beers" at least.

Muahahaha!!! I saved 500 Baht! Yippee!

You know, I didn't look at the side car very closely- does it have some kind of drain hole? It must or how could you ride in the rain? If so it should be possible to fill it up with ice and beer! :D:D

Oh my- this is going to be fun! :)

Maybe she is arriving with the Bike tomorrow..sitting in the sidecar. But then again...she was posing in front of the TT150 maybe she comes with that bike...maybe thats also the reason why the release date of the TT 150 keeps getting postponed.

I am sure your son will have some fun sitting in the sidecar with daddy driving ...looking forward to the pics.

I was going to post saying I like your style of problem solving, then I saw the picture in the next thread and went all hot and clammy :D

Any chance of hiring the girl and forgetting about the bike :D

Anyways welcome back, I'm glad you have sorted out the split-personality problems :)

The Retro/sidecar have 2 small drain holes direct under the seat. During Sornkarn my 8 year daughter will be sitting in it firing her water gun, but I am a bit concerned that the drain holes won't be able to keep up if you are riding where a lot of people are "fighting" he-he. :)

The idea with ice and beers is good, keep the drain holes open and your friends can just follow the "trail" to find you. :D

Tiger continues to impress- they showed up at my office with the Tiger in a Tiger icon_lol.gif right on time-

spacer.gif040910TigerRetroSm.jpg

Gave me a quick run down on the bike- as you can imagine it's pretty simple. My son jumped right in and was like, COME ON DAD- TAKE ME FOR A RIDE NOW! icon_salut.gif

spacer.gif040910TigerRetro5Sm.jpg

Took it for a quick spin around the parking lot and well, gee, having never ridden a bike with sidecar before I have to say it does take a little getting used to! icon_eek.gif

spacer.gif040910TigerRetro2Sm.jpg

And someone please explain to me what that front brake is all about?! I've never seen such a contraption- when you get on the front brake instead of fork dive you get with normal bikes the Tiger Retro actually jumps UP at the front- it's the weirdest feeling and I'll have to ride it some more to figure it out. Warning to anyone else who may get one of these- you pretty much lose all turning ability when you get on the front brake. The front end comes up and straightens out and it's almost impossible to get the bike to turn if you are heavy on the front brake.

Anyway- this thing isn't meant to go fast and the rear brake is linked to the sidecar wheel as well so unlike regular motorcycles the rear brake is actually quite effective as it's braking 2 wheels.

Apparently the Tiger Retro tastes good too icon_mrgreen.gif

spacer.gif040910TigerRetro8Sm.jpg

A bit off topic- I wasn't actually expecting Tiger to deliver the bike so quickly and I bought it for my staff to run orders to the post office. I told them I'd get them the Tiger if they got their drivers licenses. Cuz, like typical Isaan girls they've been riding scoots for years but never bothered with a license.

So while I'm waiting at the office for the Retro to show up they go to get their licenses and guess what- they both FAILED the test! icon_lol.gif

spacer.gif040910TigerRetro9Sm.jpg

Oh- one more thing - everyone who's seen this bike has been asking about it- There's something about this unusual contraption that just seems to make people smile and laugh. I did some driving around my Moo Baan and all the parents and kids and security guards were smiling and pointing at the farang on his retro scooter and his son in the flashy sidecar. The sidecar is pretty roomy (for my 3 year old) icon_e_wink.gif - but I think tall folks will have a hard time sitting in it. (Actually I haven't tried sitting in it yet...)

Well, my worker bees will make another attempt for their licenses on Monday- wish us luck!

Happy Trails,

Tony on a Tiger icon_mrgreen.gif

Nice Bike and looks like all have fun at your workplace. Good luck for the Girls with the Test, otherwise you will be responsible of all Transports in future.
