My new white - Mazda 3 hatchback arrives tomorrow. Can't wait. What sold me? The safety elements. Volvo designed frame, 8 standard airbags in the high end spec, frame steel that is 2 mm thicker than Toyota and Yaris, and a nice look as well.

Happy Happy Happy!

I bought a Mazda 3 hatchback 2.0 litre (also white :D) two year ago and I am very happy with it.

  • Not too small, not too big
  • Safety (then "only" 6 airbags")
  • Fuel consumption to much for me: 9 l/100km, up to 12 l/100km when my Thai girl friend is driving... :)

BUZZKILL. Tonight the wife and i are toasting to our new car tomorrow, when the dealer calls. He says that someone returning from a test drive came in "too hot' and wiped out 5 new cars, including ours!!!! We have to wait for a new one, on the 15th. Funny and Sad at the same time lol

Great choice of car!

Had the pleasure of driving one for two weeks in the Netherlands the other year. Was a bit annoyed when I had to give it back. Loved it!

Wow, that's bad luck. Then again, if it turns into a more lengthy delay you might be able to score the 2nd generation model instead :)

Any idea when the second generation model comes out? Saw some pics on this forum a few weeks ago and if it looks anything like that it will be great. I assumed the fact that SomTum was buying one now that release of the new version was a long way off.

P.S. SomTum, are you at all worried that the dealer might try repairing the crash damaged model and hope you don't notice?

The lastest official PR I'm aware of was around the middle of 2009 - in that it was scheduled for a 2011 release but it didn't specify any concrete dates however. The only follow-up to that is info that it's expected to follow the initial production run of the Ford Fiesta (in the Auto Alliance facility) - which places it's launch anywhere from August 2010 onwards..

Note that the production of the 2nd gen Mazda 3 will be followed-up by production of the all-new Ford Focus (which is, IMHO, a model to look out for) - given the production delays at Auto Alliance I wouldn't expect that until late 2011 / Early 2012 though..

I thought about it, but I let my wife take care of that. She is a business phuyai, and knows how to talk to saleman lol. Frankly, 2nd gen or not, I need a new car now, and it seemed like the best of the current choices, in terms of safety, size and functionality (hatchback versatility, etc). I know two colleagues who have them and our happy. Ask me again in 5 years if im happy lol.

I exaggerated the "wiped out" as well (Im an American, the land of overused superlatives). It was a busted taillight and some bumper damage.

So do you know whether you will get a new one or whether they will patch up the taillight and bumper damaged one and give you that?

Looks great but what a joke that it might not arrive until 2012. The current Focus is already looking dated and tired. Ford wonder why they struggle so much in this market but really don't seem to take things seriously. They have the products to take on the Japanese, they just need to get their fingers out with production and price themselves a bit more competitively. Frustrating that they don't.

P.S. Any pics of the up-coming Mazda 3 for comparison?

Went down and talked to the dealer manager yesterday. They will be giving us a new one. Asked him how we could be sure, and he told us that when the car carrier comes in, he'll call and we can see it offloaded, still wrapped in plastic from the Philippines factory.

That's good to know although makes you wonder what will happen to the crash damaged one. I wouldn't mind betting they patch it up and sell it as new or ex-demo to some unsuspecting mug. Still, not your problem i guess...

Don't know. Probably be too busy sexually harrassing all the pretty sales girls that i had employed to care too much.

The manger will just get it repaired & put back on the lot as a new vehicle. What do you think happens around the yard with scratches , little bumps or more importantly transport damage.

Wife say it roll of the truck yesterday, still wrapped in plastic, so we know its brand new, and not the other one fixed up. Will post some pics soon! Happy again! happy happy happy happy happy
