I know all the countries in South-East-Asia, and I always wondered why BKK is considered a shopping paradise.......its nothing special at all.....Kuala Lumpur was always the best place, KLCC, TIMES SQUARE (makes u feel humble and like a small pathetic worm when u walk inside this palace), MID VALLEY and probably KL will be the best forever....just great, lot of fun and no hassle at all.....followed by - believe it or not - Jakarta.....yes, surprisingly, one of the poorest countries in the world has the biggest, best and most modern shopping malls I ever seen in my life......ever tried MALL TAMAN ANGGREK ? KELAPA GADING ? Or Bandung Supermall ? Bangkok has NOTHING comparable....just ridiculous places like the EMPORIUM, CENBTRAL WORLD and many small malls, mostly owned by CENTRAL or THE MALL.....best Mall is still MALL BANGKAPI in my opinion.....very big place, large variety of retails, upper class labels but cheapos as well....and mostly busy and alive.....nice to stroll and lurk around there.....especially with a big wallet....

yeah I know, many of you bangkokians will not agree.....but so many of my friends came to BKK and where not impressed at all when the topic was SHOPPING.......but thanks god BKK has more things to offer than shopping :o

oh, you stay near MBK....well, then this is the best plave in downtown BKK.....cause its a real THAI place.....the only shopping complex that has its own style and atmosphere.....

have fun in L.O.S.

Seacon Square is the largest mall in Asia,or it least it was.

"Seacon Square, Asia's largest Shopping and Entertainment Complex and one of the world's five largest, opened on Srinakarin Road of eastern Bangkok. One of the most outstanding and eye-catching of the city's shopping complexes, Seacon Square with a total building are of 500,000 square meter, a facing running 700 metres along Srinakarin Road, equivalent to 96 football fields.

The city zone incorporates the bright and lively colors of the busy shopping complexes. The Main Atrium is a meeting place, completed with greenery, a bubbling fountain and statues; while the nature zone's decoration and design exemplifies the natural environment.

Seacon Square is for the whole family to enjoy with a whole host of diversified attractions including Robinson Department Store, Lotus Supercenter, amusement theme park "Yoyo Land", multiplex cinema "Seacon 14", International Book Forum, DK Books - reputedly the biggest bookstore in Thailand. Thailand's first motion simulation theatre "The Simulator", an 18-hole miniature golf course, international food court and 400 leading brand name shops.

Few will want to waste an entire day battling traffic in order to visit this remote, American-style mall. It's not far from the BITEC convention center. It is located at 904 Srinakarin Road. Telephone 721-8888. For more information, click here or visit "www.seaconsquare.com"

I think it is around 15km?

It is best you beat the traffic, take the skytrain, stop at ONUT station, proceed to the direction of south BKK (outside Macdonald's) and flag down any cab and make sure they turn on the meter.

Since I guess you are from Singapore, do not miss the "Gold Class" cinema there for 250 baht (Compare to great world city), with electric arm chair, blanket and pillow. Be prepared for a standing tirbute to His Majesty before the show starts.

For food in Seacon, try the Oishi buffet restaurant, combination of Japanese and Chinese food, with buffet concept I have not experienced before. For 299 bht+ per person if I am not wrong. the price includes free flow fruit punch, juices, cuppucino, roast duck, shrimps, salmon, soups etc prepared to your liking. No hidden costs.

For the lady shoppers, there are a few corners with lady stuff.

Next to Seacon is Seri Shopping Centre, which I have no time and usually tired after Seacon.

Hi,

Does MBK have Skytrain.. i heard there is BTS but not sure about Skytrain. Actually are they the same? At ONUT station, how far is it from Seacon?

And are they open everyday? Go there during evening time or Day time?

Oh ya i am from singapore, we are so near and yet i never been to bangkok -.,-.

yes BTS is same as skytrain. the terminal station NATIONAL STADIUM of the Silom Line has a direct access via walkway (you can not miss it) to the MBK. MBK has a flair, many small shops, and many locals go there.....as for seacon square: I go there quite often as I my home is just 5 km away from it. its "okay", not too bad.....but definitely not the biggest mall in Asia.....maybe at the day it was opened.....I know of at least 5 or 6 malls within Asia who claim to be the "biggest mall in Asia or in the world or in the galaxy....or whereever".....actually SEACON is nothing special so definitely not worth for a tourist to make the long way 20 km out of downtown area.....I sometimes buy some cheap furniture there, its good for that, but thats all......just an average oversized suburban mall with no flair or anything special......but judge by urself if u have the time and wanna spend extra money for taxi (go to ON NUT terminal station by BTS, then take a taxi, about 70-80 baht to Seacon). But I wouldnt recommend to do so...

I can't imagine that Seacon Square is any bigger than Suria KLCC in Kuala Lumpur which is huge (as is Times Square). The DK Bookstore in Seacon Square is big, but I thought it was pretty dumpy and not all that well looked after.

Haze, if you want to venture outside of Bangkok proper to a shopping center, I would also recommend The Mall Bangkapi as being pretty nice. Does anybody know whether one can still take the Klong Saen Saeb boat out to Bangkapi?

Correction: At Onut station, flag a taxi opposite the row of MK and Macdonald's restaurants. BTS and Skytrain means the same thing, although there is the MRT now.
