Why I Think Retarded People Use Smileys

Featured Replies

I just can't fathom your thought processes Mark. Your posts are starting to look a bit like a troll to me and you've hinted at that yourself... I believe you are probably genuine to some extent, but there's an element of gunning for reaction about your posts. Quite clearly, you've chosen to disregard everything the BMs have tried to explain to you. Don't take this as intending insult, but in my view, you will find just about every BM considers that you have a maturity issue. And the more you persist in your amateur psychology retorts, the more you tend to confirm it. From reading your posts, I really don't believe that Bedlam is a forum in which you could ever feel quite comfortable. My advice would be for you to try to find a forum elsewhere that is more aligned to your views.

Marky, you say "passive aggressive" as if it is an undesirable behaviour.

What's so wrong with passive agressiveness?

"......I don’t mind being insulted. If you look at the posts in this thread they are almost all insulting. ..."

Are they almost all insulting? If you think so, then you may be a bit over-sensitive despite your claim. I saw very few insults. Mocking, cajoling, tongue-in-cheek rib-poking.... not many insults though.

Passive aggressive behavior stems from an inability to express anger in a healthy way. A person's feelings may be so repressed that they don't even realize they are angry or feeling resentment. A passive aggressive can drive people around him/her crazy and seem sincerely dismayed when confronted with their behavior. Due to their own lack of insight into their feelings the passive aggressive often feels that others misunderstand them or, are holding them to unreasonable standards if they are confronted about their behavior.

Here's a rimshot... :D

:D

This gets my vote, for post of the thread. :)

If you are using smileys to lesson the blow of an insult then maybe you should research that behavior because it probably bothers many more people than you know.

Perhaps you should research the terms 'banter' and 'sense of humour' mark.

As I said earlier in this thread, you take yourself way too seriously and so I suspect things such as banter will be lost on you.

BINGO! Meee finks mr moonrakkker has hit the nail on the head. :D:D:D:D:D:):D:D:D

It doesn’t take a brain trust to figure out you would feel more comfortable as king of the forum.

But thanks for the advice anyway.

I feel fine.

Perhaps I do have maturity issues. I did teach adolescent psychology at Northwestern Michigan College a while back.

I am not really looking for agreement or some kind of consensus posting validation.

You do know there is a sub culture in the sub forum don’t you?

They communicate with each other and wonder at the behavior of some of the posters.

I used to think Bedlam was about slightly off-topic FUN.

That don't live here anymore :D:):D:D

Yes it does - just not in this particular thread... :)

I thought you'd given up drinking?

Hmm..youve given me The smart person, imo, doesnt waste time being offended and nitpicking and aiming to act somehow superior (particularly in an open forum) by name calling all and sundry just because they dont share a similar viewpoint.

Lest i forget: " :D "

Eek, thanks for the above, particularly the highlighted part. Something Im trying to remind myself a lot in the past couple of days, but good to also hear it from someone else. a reinforcement of sorts

cheers :D

ohh opps I used a smiley :D

AND I did it AGAIN! :)

ok ok Ill stop now. honest. [my fingers are edging though]

nah I shall resist.

yes I can do it.

cmon.

oh forget it. I CANT resist

:D

(sorry OP, absolutely no disrespect meant to you, your post or your views.....I just need to let off and act silly every now and then, and this is one of those moments. I do it in totally random threads) In a related way perhaps I understand what you are referring to. Eg. I have an absolute dislike to my friends using facebook to send me all sorts of communication. I use it too - but would not dream of posting very personal messages on their walls. Yet I cringe at things I have seen posted on walls for all to see. Not that they are disgusting, just that they should be private?

or perhaps its totally unrelated. I shall stop now).

4 smilies in that post Migs - that's 96 points off your IQ (or are they not cumulative?)

E: Forgot the smiley :)

what's he waffling on about this time?

Smilies - I had some good ones but they got zapped when I changed computers.

Shall try and retrieve them.

Well I am NOT going to use a smiley.

:)

so there.

and again.

:D

THIS IS A SMILEY FREE ZONE.

What a boring, staid, prim and proper :).

Is it only me who thinks young Mark is a clever fellow, who worked out a topic to pull the chain of the dear Bedderites and has quite successfully achieved his goal ?

No, not really. I was just tired of writing a well thought out essay, taking time and energy in an attempt to bring enlightenment to some denser members of the TV community only to be answered by one or two words or even worse a symbol suited to a fifth grade special ed class.

Not that I minded a negative response but I hoped the intellectual level of the negative response would at least rise to some sort of minimum standard befitting this prestigious forum.

Do you have a problem with basic coded engrish? :D

Not so clever - his title "Why I think Retarded People Use Smilies" does not describe the content of his OP.

The title would have been better as "Why I think people who use smilies are retarded". I thought that the discussion would have been centred on the differences in thought process and communication skills of people with various forms of retrdation as against 'normal' people (who could also use smilies, from the title).

Wait for his next offering; A thesis on y i tnk ppl hu us txt spk r dkhds. :D

:D

i used a :)

:D

i guess i'm :D

or maybe :D

Well spotted, Humph. So he's not a troll, just a di......

I quite like Mark.

I don't think I'm considered the biggest <deleted> in Bedlam anymore.

I was just tired of writing a well thought out essay,

If you chose to spend your time typing out a full essay on a subject which imo (judged after reading every one of your posts) a few choice lines & a couple of similes would have sufficed, then that is your business but why do you then think that other posters need to waste their time posting paragraph after paragraph of irrelevant prose just to satisfy your need & to make you happy? Do you really believe yourself to be that important?

I was reading the general sub forum about a person who was complaining about threatening phone calls and asking what to do about them.

You accused me of making the threatening calls.

Out of the blue! I had not ever seen the thread before today. Nor do I make threatening phone calls. Nor do I know the poster.

Is that your idea of banter?

It is my idea of adolescent rude behavior and I think it is it is in very bad taste.

If you had even a bit of honor you would apologize.

If your idea of banter and humor is to search out threads and post scurrilous remarks about me behind my back then I think I don’t like banter.

!

No matter how much you push the envelope, it'll still be stationary.
