Those Fish Foot Eating Shops

Featured Replies

Well, went to one of those foot fish eating shops on Pattaya recently.

They seem to be the latest business craze, another flash in the pan business I suppose.

Now I see they are starting to pop up everywhere.

The one I went to was a small shop situated on a main road in Pattaya.

Was owned by a farang who it seemed had some marketing knowledge.

He had the fish tank face the outside windows so you sit with your feet in the tank facing the walkers pass by who stop and stare where one of his two staff then try to coax the stopper in.

They had 3 tanks, one each in front window next to front door and one inside.

Price was I recall 150 for 20 minutes.

The fish apparently eat the dead skin on your feet.

But talking about business ,I guess this business is a short time moneymaker.

Cash in on the latest craze, obviously the market is tourists and genuinly you only get their custom once.

He(farang)businessman had two thai female staff working for him,he sat inside watching his staff work and smiling talking to customers (2) using the tanks.

One lady staff member was inside and another outside coaxing the stoppers/lookers inside.

Obviously he has rent to pay, plus 2 staff members, and utility bills.

These seem to be his only outgoings so could be a profitable business however he had the "go getter' skills and clever marketing and watching and advising his staff so he may succeed.

He made sure his staff were on the lookout for customers,he made sure customers were comfortable, his marketing was there for passersby etc.

I doubt its a business I would risk for long term however.

We had hundreds of these fish eating shops in Chiang Mai most have closed due to lake of business now I know where the went. More toe jam in Pattaya. :)
