Passport Control In Burma / Ranong

Featured Replies

hi,

i have to do a visarun to ranong soon, and i have a one year non b visa witch expires on the day of my visarun. this means i still get 90 days on this visa if i re enter the kingdom on the same day.

now the roblem is, my passport fell in the salt water and i found it only a couple of hours later, i can still read everything, but i dont think this machines they have at borders can read it. do they have this machine in ranong at the thai or burmese borders? or do they just look at the passport and give you a stamp?

thanks,

thaifreak

Tricky one.

They are certainly computerised at Ranong, but last time i was there - just over 2 weeks ago - they don't do the processing immediately. Just read the details on your passport.

However, if the details are slightly illegible, you may be subject to more scrutiny.

I wouldn't worry about the Burmese side. If you get out of Thailand, you'll have a legible exit stamp. Burma's only interested in your 5 dollars.

PS, I'm not sure if they have the scanning facilities yet, if that's what you mean.

No scanner at Ranong last time I looked. ie they will not need to slide your passport through anything which needs it to be machine-readable.

However, as Sua Yai says - be prepared for some scrutiny and questions depending upon how badly you drowned your passport.

Might be an idea to get it replaced quicksmart....

I find the immigration office at teh Andaman Club to be really lovely. They don't have the scanning there as far as I remember, but it is a MUCH better way to go, as opposed to sitting in a hot longtail boat.

BUT, I think you need to have at least 5 days left on your stamp in order to go through them.

You get to buy duty free at the casino, too.

I agree that the Andaman Club is a good service.

Going 5 days before your visa expires only applies to 30 day entry stamps. If you've got a proper visa, you can go on the exact day.

They let you go on a 30 day stamp, but you have to pay 700 Baht more if you havn't got the minimum 5 days left. Never did understand why.

They know why you are there - and it is not to give them your money. :o
