Time To Retire The Avatar?

Featured Replies

I'm going to make sbk proud of me.

I'll generally avoid General, my presence in Thai News will be news to everybody and I'll stay well outside of Outside the Box.

When she writes her tell all book on ThaiVisa she'll use my posts as an example of forum correctness and how points of argument can be made without causing offence.

You suck hole :)

I could tell you exactly what she'll use your posts to demonstrate but the new squeaky clean sceadugenga doesn't say hurtful things any more. :)

B o R i N g

:)

I thought this fred was about avatars.

Anywayzz, woteva, they are the easiest way to find ppls posts.

Please do not suggest getting rid of them.

sceadugenga is the only poster who posts on the liberal team in Outside the Box who is not a stark raving lunatic. Please do not bother him.

Also, the report button sure comes in handy for stalkers who the mods do not notice without a few hints.

topic title adjusted a tiny bit - to reflect OP's intention and not give the misleading impression that we have now changed policies to allow discussion of moderation :D

and its ok scead - Im used to being ignored on this forum :)

and occasionally in real life :D

Am not a liberal.

Was raised Socialist but expelled for underpaying servants.

My family were all social conservatives and economic socialists. Wasn't a bad mix actually, they don't seem to make them like that any more. You had hard working patriots who never minded paying tax if it was put to good use.

My view is, if you want to flounce, then flounce and do it quietly.

The report button is quite important and I use it regularly, although never, I think because I have been attacked, which also happens frequently <img src="http://static.thaivisa.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/biggrin.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":D" border="0" alt="biggrin.gif" />

There's currently no question of withdrawing from the forum although I have been known to retreat to the far flung reaches of the local sub-forums to lick my wounds occasionally.

The OP was about self-moderation, turning the other cheek and using soft words to turn away wrath. The gunfighter avatar would be put to bed and replaced with an "endure like" teddy bear, a symbol of my new niceness. :D

Umm, that teddybear is a thin disguise. Very thin indeed. :D

OK, I get the message.

People who don't brush their teeth ARE scary! :)

True, but endure is a nice guy, so most of us just try to ignore that about him. :) So you see, here you go again, trying to upset him.

That probably explains why your posts are so sensible. :)

No need to retire the avatar. It quickly reminds me who is posting. I've never seen you post anything that was offensive... at least not to my rather open minded viewpoint. Very little offends me, and people who DO post offensive crap are only painting themselves into a box..

Oh, and I do remember what a certain mod found offensive. I believe it had something to do with negative comments about ex-spouses. That is a game played by many people including hundreds of stand-up comics on stage. Does it offend me?...No, but some of that type of comedy is boring.. ie. "My spouse is so fat that..." or "My mother in law is so stupid that..."

I haven't posted anything for the past few weeks because I felt most people were growing bored of my topics... or, more accurately, replies to topics. And, some people don't seem to enjoy my photos. I also seem to look at everything in life from a different perspective, and when I read something I try to put myself in the writer's shoes before givng an answer... some of which are well fashioned "trolls". I see nothing wrong with a "troll" if it makes for a good debate.

So, all I'm saying is don't change your style, OP. It will confuse everyone.

Oh, and I never use the report button. There are enough mods checking the various threads to do that. They will catch the illegal ads or misplaced threads soon enough. I kind of enjoy watching some people make fools of themselves by being nasty to other people. It tells more about the person who says something nasty then it ever does about what has been said.

Is this turning into another 'Me' thread?

I dunnoh, you tell "ME". All we can do in relating to ANY topic is use personal experiences as examples. I don't visit the gay forum because I'm not gay and I have no idea how gays feel. All I could do is TRY to understand, and in doing so try not to be offensive.

The quality of a "me thread" is dependant on the quality of the "me" involved.

I had a look for you yesterday Ian because I thought you may be on holiday. (As in a forum imposed one). :D

Oh, and I don't visit the gay forum because I'm afraid people will think that..... :)

I visit all the forums, I couldnt care what other people think about me, I know what I am.

Although I was critised recently for posting in one of the sub forums recently.:)

I have visited the gay forum. I'm suprised that you don't visit it for fear of other people's thoughts. If you said you didn't visit it because you don't imagine there would be anything interesting for you.....I could believe that of you.

reminds me of an incident that happened years and years ago. There was an openly gay man in town (a little effeminate but clearly gay, and NOT a ladyboy) well one night we go to a temple festival and there he is, hanging out with a bunch of the local police. I said to my husband, "Look, the gay guy is hanging out with the police!" and he said, "so?" to which I responded "but he's gay.." and my husband said, "Just because your friend is gay doesn't mean people think you are. This isn't America you know."

OK, I'll tell the truth.

I generally steer clear of there and the ladies forum because I feel like I'm intruding.

If they want to talk about gay and women's things then they can do it with out me peering over their shoulders. I'm not patronising them or saying it's not interesting, it's just I consider it none of my business and leave it to the members it was created for.

Now if they started a sub forum for old hetero guys that would like to slip of the porch occasionally, then it would different matter. :D

I once suggested we start an old retired farts forum run with the same rules as one of those other ones, but got short shift from those with the power.

:D:):D:D:D:D

Maybe a year or so back, I had a PM from a mod about some, to me, innocuous post I made.

I could see nothing offensive in it.

Guess sum small mind REPORTED me.... :)

Neva knew there was a report button till I reaqd about it recently in this fred.

I don't want to slip off my porch. It's a 10 foot fall to the cement below. And, what would any of us old hetero guys have to talk about without sounding like we were bragging? :)

I visit the ladies forum from time to time because they are usually much more civil there. And, I might even make a comment if there is a topic I can contribute to in a rational fashion. Otherwise I just take a peek at the topics and leave.

At least in Bedlam you can post a topic that might be of interest to some people here and yet not be Thai related. Threads seem to take on a life of their own and wander into all sorts of different topics. They also slowly paint a picture of who the contributers are and what they are like.

Probably because nearly everything "retired old farts" would need to talk about, is already covered in the Medical forum :)

But even a Stradivarius would sound dull with a Cholostomy bag hanging off it :D
