Technical Question- Camera Didn'T Convert Thm File

Featured Replies

Normally my canon converts the .thm file to .mvi file automatically. This time it did not. How do I get my .thm file playable? And how do I make sure this doesn't happen again? Did I do something wrong or could I have changed my settings? I have a Canon Powershot S5IS

Hi 'sbk',

Sorry I do not have a clue, but this link below may help you

ImpulseAdventure - What are THM files?

You could try and contact your nearerst Cannon dealer :D

but from reading your link, it sounds like my chances of getting my video out of the thm file is nil. :)

The main video file is .avi and the thm is just a thumbnail and nothing to do with the main avi movie file. It's (thumbnail) generated at the same time and I always just deleted them as did not need them for preview purposes. This is based on previous camera, Konica Minolta. My Canon S5 IS does not generate the thumbnail files now have RAW. I thought you had the same camera?

Is your memory card nearly full? Also, perhaps remove it and clean the contacts on the card.

I do have the same, and its full of these....

I am pushing the little button on the side of the camera rather than turning the dial to video...

Hi 'Tywais'

I read this review:-

Canon Powershot S5 IS Review

Raw Mode There isn't one. I'm still undecided about whether or not this is a problem, but I don't really understand why Canon would leave this out; after all, isn't it just the omission of processing steps? They withdrew RAW mode from the recently released G7 as well. Go figure!

Ohh well...

That was a typo on my part Kan Win "does not generate the thumbnail files now have RAW" the "now" was supposed to be "nor" Sorry about that.

Strange sbk, I just tested mine first putting the dial in movie mode and videoing then in Auto mode and using the red record button. Neither gave me thm files. Wonder if different firmware revisions? Did you make sure that the flashing light showing it was storing to the memory card stopped before shutting down?

Hi 'sbk',

Just download the memory card 'all the files' and then they should be there on your computer, only not converted into .avi, .mov, etc..

The easy part is like most 'you tube' files there are no extentions, I just re-name them to any file that plays on VLC media player. :D

VideoLAN - VLC media player - Open Source Multimedia Framework and Player

"It plays everything!" so they say :)

Please get back to us if this works or not works out for you.
