Thai Pap Type Shots.. Legality

Featured Replies

Thailand being Thailand I am sure there may well be laws and a totally different implementation..

But is Thailand similar to most of the world in that you have the right to take a photo in a public place ?? No matter if the subject wished it or not ?

Well, I've seen "Pap" shots in Thai magazines.

Some were taken in the street, some were taken in well known shopping centres.

As for legality....I haven't a clue.

There are no substantial differences between the legal basis for street photography in Thailand and in countries whose legal systems are grounded in English common law or the Napoleonic Code. You are allowed to take photos of anyone you want in a street in Thailand. You do not need the permission or consent of person being photographed to snap his or her picture. However, laws governing the publication of text and photos can in some instances be significantly different from the West, especially regarding defamation and slander. It's safe to say that with only a few exceptions, you can take whatever pictures you want in public in Thailand, but you may have to exercise more caution in publishing some of them.
