Advice Needed Re Fried Sony Dvd/Vcr Deck

Featured Replies

I had a perfectly good, some years old Sony DVD Player/VHS Player-Recorder Deck (SLV-D380P) that I brought over here from the U.S. and had been using with no problems via a step-down power transformer. A recent Sony web site prices this model at about $100 U.S. if purchased new.

"Had" being the key word here because, while I was away on a recent trip back to the U.S., my Thai wife decided to reorganize our house without telling me beforehand, and started moving stands and equipment around. Somehow in the process, apparently, she managed to unplug the DVD deck and then later re-plug it back in, albeit to a regular Thai 220v jack... Then when I returned home, presto, dead DVD deck.

So I'm asking for some advice here: When this kind of thing happens, can the problem be solved by having a repairman install a new power supply in the deck, if that's even possible and/or makes any economic sense? If so, any suggestions on who in Bangkok to take this kind of thing to?

Or, given the relative cheapness of local/Chinese DVD players in the stores here, should I just chuck the old Sony and get a local cheapie for playing regular DVDs, or look at this as an opportunity to upgrade to a BlueRay player??? I'm not looking to spend a lot of money on this, since we don't use it that much.

There was a time when I was using the VHS function of the deck. But these days, it was only getting used to play regular DVDs...

Thanks much, in advance, for any sensible advice provided...

Its possible it may have an internal fuse that has blown.

1. Have your local sony centre give it a look over.

2. If you no longer use the VHS side then dump it and buy a reasonable DVD deck.
