Hi.

After spending the last year in thailand. I came back to England May 17th and have been talking to my Thai fioncai ever since.

I am going back out to Thailand for a 2 week holiday in September, we are getting married next March.

After the marriage we are hoping she is coming to live with me at my home in England. It is looking like a lot of hassle getting a visa.

Anyone please got any advice on my best way forward. Do I go to the embassy in Bangkok in sept and tell them what i want to do? what will i need to show to prove how long we have been together? any other relevant information anyone can provide me will be greatly appreciated.

Also I've heard I need to make sure our marriage is official, how do i do that? where do we need to register to ensure it is official?

Also on a few of the uk visa websites there is talk of sponsorship. what is this? and when is it needed?

Sorry to fire so many questions in such a short passage, but i want to make sure i've done all my homework to make sure our passage back to the uk after marriage is as painless as possible.

Thanks again

Hi, Tilley.

As a first step I would recommend that you read Guidance - Husbands, wives and partners (INF 4) from the embassy website and Spouses + partners from the Immigration and Nationality Directive website.

Any questions after that, feel free to ask.

At an Ampur.

As her spouse, you will be the sponsor.

Hi Tilley, seeing as you are a new member, it would also be worthwhile looking through the older pages in the visa section of the site. You'll find many people in the same situation as yourself and a lot of very useful information pertaining to your own needs.

Hope things work out for you.

www.britishemb.or.th is a good place to start.

There is no need to go to the embassy before you are ready to apply. Make sure all your documents are in order when you do apply and that you can prove your income, where you are going to live and evidence of your relationship (this can be in the form of e-mails, telephone bills, photos etc.)
