Vietnam War Mortar Round found in the road, just outside of Pattaya

SRIRACHA: -- On Thursday Afternoon Officers from Sriracha Police Station, located 25kms outside of Pattaya, were called to an area known as “Nong Kam” after locals reported the discovery of an explosive device on the side of the road. Officers arrived and inspected the device which we have identified as an 81mm Illumination Mortar round dating back to the Vietnam War and was commonly used to light up the night skies.

I'm laughing out loud! What a wally. That's gotta be an entry for the Darwin awards.

At the time of discovery, the officers did not know what the device was and normal procedure would have been to contact the Royal Thai Navy Bomb Disposal Unit, however one officer decided to pick the mortar up and initially placed it, unsecured, on the back of a Police Pick-up truck. He then decided this was not the best idea and summoned the assistance of a local resident who drove him to the Police Station while he was holding the mortar in his hand which some would say, was also not the best course of action

lol ...............

Bloody h*ll!! Guts or stupidity??? Wonder who put the thing there, looks new enough.

Is this the same guy who, a couple of years back, was videod chucking a suspect package around only for it to go BOOM!? :o
