I am moving house next week and I must have called True 10 times and I have also been to the True shop in two different locations. I went there and told them I am moving and I would like to take my current internet with me. They asked for my new address which I gave them and then they said they don't know where it is and could I draw them a map. I found this incredible as we are in 2010 and they can't locate a brand new estate on their systems. By the way I am moving about 10 minutes away from where I live now. It isn't that diffciult is it ? I drew them the map only to be told that it didn't help them understand much. I was with my Thai girlfriend and she was their throughout to translate. I left the shop and I got nowhere in trying to continueing my services with them. I rang them for the last time just now and they said I have to wait at least a month. When I asked them why they said they capacity is full up or some garbage. Does anyone know of another internet suplier with half a brain ? True is the WORST customer service I have ever known.

For the record I am in Samut Prakan. I am not a happy bunny today. As it stands I cannot use the internet as of next week when I move.

Many thanks on advance.

I'm in Samutprakarn as well. In some areas they have problems. We waited for a few years... we got ADSL maybe 2-3 years ago...

Another thing... our mooban changed names just a little ago. Maybe your did too so they may not have the new name in their records. Print out a google map

If you have the service in your area, why not CAT CDMA....just take it arround with your laptop or fixed in your desktop.

Had mine for 2 years now...moved house...reception no problem.

As you mention a new development it is likely not on any map yet so yes they would need an accurate map to know where you were talking about. Google is at least a year to two out of date here. Then there has to be equipment available (why they ask for an address) and it appears that is not available.

First of all addresses in Thailand don't mean crap as to where the location of a building/house is. You'll have the same problem with any provider. Get use to it, This Is Thailand!

Second of all, you mentioned it is a new development. Usually you'll have to wait from any provider to install lines and equipment. It can take up to 2-3 years depending on location. You can't blame True, TOT, TT&T or any other provider.

Blame yourself for not checking first!

In the meantime, you may have to use a SIM (mobile phone or Dongle) or Satellite service to access the Internet.

To the OP, it's very common for Thai companies to ask for a map to deliver a product, install a product (like internet/phone line), since many Thai addresses are not that descriptive and in many cases house/moobaan numbers (or even sois) are not in good/expected sequence in many areas. And some roads/sois even have multiple names along the length of the road/soi. TOT many times asks for a map to install a new line/DSL, HomePro asks for a map to deliver an item, etc...etc...etc. Plan on drawing a lot more maps during your stay in Tha iland.

I forgot to mention. ADSL has a limitation as to how far a line can be run to provide a good enough signal.

I have a friend who would like to switch to True (being that they offer higher speeds), but their nearest service box is 1000 meters away and on the other side of a major highway. The True service technicians came out to survey the situation and told him that they wouldn't be able to run a cable to install True, as they weren't sure how reliable the service would be.

So your move of 10 minutes away, is not as simple as you think.

The people that work in the office have no clue as to where distribution points are, nor any of the other factors involved. You needed to politely set up an appointment with a True service technician to come out to meet you and your TGF and evaluate the situation. True is very good about doing that.

Rude, demanding, and obnoxious foreigners will simply be ignored, just about everywhere in Thailand. Politeness, respect, and a smile will get you much better service.

I found that with the map I drew theoffice girl pulled up a google map with their services and got me to confirm. I was then told not aavailable then but in a month or so. Cables were put in the next week and I bought on a special promotion. They were really quite helpful and efficient.

Very True!!! None of the houses around me have a sequence number even close to mine. Yet a house that has a sequence number 1 digit of from mine is located about 2KM away and not on the same soi. I have a map printed on the back of my card. Don't make a map in English. They will not understand. I needs to be in Thai.

Additionally to the OP, True may not even service the area/moobaan you are moving to. The phone/DSL lines may be TOT's area, TT&T's area, etc. Do you have phone service setup at the new residence yet? If so, what phone company is it? For example, if it's True you can probably get True internet service even through the True service center/shops seem unsure.. If it's TOT, TT&T, etc., you probably can't get True internet service. Now, in some areas, True may be able to string an internet line to another phone company's area, but in most cases they can't/won't.

This is absolutely correct, especially if the mooban uses underground wiring. I know one village which uses underground wiring. The phone service for the village is provided through TT&T, but the village is located too far from TT&T's switching office to reliably get ADSL service. Hench, none of the residents in the village can get an ADSL line. The village will not allow any overhead lines.
