Unforgivable war crimes committed by Russia on the battlefield
At this point what are you people arguing about? That the war is not being put to an end (by Trump and Putin) - post haste? That the war will somehow continue without US funding and munitions and Ukraine will be victorious? Or simply Putin man bad (like orange man bad)? * This is the simple, stupid answer so this must be it. This misplaced thread in an expatriate forum sought yet again to change hearts and minds, but was just limp dik hyperbolic bola bola I need to get my bearings here. Which is it please? -

Bangkok Bank Now Doing FATCA
Don't the IRS rules require that a taxpayer claim any foreign tax refunds applicable and then only claim the tax credit for the net amount after the foreign tax refund? Simply ceding the entire 15% to the Thai taxman wouldn't seem to pass muster in this regard if a refund could be obtained. Or no? -

Day-to-day life in Myanmar
Hurrah! My updated learning app is on the Playstore. Now to make people in Myanmar aware of it! I've mentioned many times about my visits to orphanages/monastery schools. A colleague (not a forum member) raised a valid question concerning child safeguarding issues and also orphanages using the poverty of their kids to attract donations etc. Concerning the safeguarding issues, I do have background clearance for working with kids. But to be honest, I usually don't see the orphans or children who stay at the orphanages. They are often attending the government school during my visit time. It's the local teachers who are important for me to interact with, either to find out what resources are needed, to donate those resources, or to install my app on their phones, (if they are unsure about how to do this). So for this reason, I rarely actually take English classes at the orphanages, 'cos the kids aren't there 🙂 On the second point, I think poverty tourism is more of a problem in countries like Cambodia, where some orphanage directors deliberately keep the kids looking poverty-stricken etc, to garner sympathy and financial donations from foreign tourists. In Myanmar, they don't need to pretend to be poverty-stricken! and there ain't any foreign tourists!😞 The majority of children in these orphanages and monasteries are not actually orphans. Rather, their parents are unable to care for them at home. By placing them in a monastery or orphanage, the children are assured of a safe place to live with their young friends, basic, food, accommodation, clothing and hopefully education. It's probably the most realistic option for their future. -

Well, I haven't been following this weboard for many years until recently - and primarily newly to learn what it is best at -Mods handling visas. But I do remember from years earlier how it was co-opted (perhaps with consent) by right wing nut jobs. I remember the sneers of those who hated 'Thaksin' and the shouting down (and banning of others) who didn't agree with those who were (oddly American Chiang Mai) types who seemed to dominate every conversation. I couldn't be bothered. Is this 'new iteration' heading that way for some reason? I hope not. I thought someone who is posting 100 times in the space of a day or two is to be watched. Has that changed?
