Dedicated Hosting Ip

Featured Replies

hello

I recently purchase a web hosting + dedicated ip for my website , I am just wondering how do I check if they really provide me with a dedicated ip for my website and not a shared ip

thanks in advance

hi,

Unless you arae using a dynamic DNS method, a website cannot be run on a shared IP address. So.... if you have set up the nameservers for your website and the site is online... and people are able to access it, then you do indeed have a static or dedicated IP.

lol... heard some crap in my time, you shouldn't make out you know what your talking about when you clearly don't have a clue.

try entering the IPs of the website and see whether you can access your site

I confess that I did mis-interpret the question from the OP - I thought he was referring to a randomly assigned IP address which is what ISP's normally do with home users. Several websites can of course be hosted on a shared static IP address. My mistake.

However, perhaps you could tell us how a reverse DNS lookup would confirm whether the IP is dedicated or shared ?

OP, perhaps you'd find better information here than any of our crappy replies : http://www.buildwebsite4u.com/articles/dedicated-ip.shtml

Nope i cant :( Still on Shared IP, they are slow at working

Initial setup of any service is usually not instantaneous from the second you pay. Plus, you're coming into a weekend which could mean a longer delay if the service startup (say 3 days just for this discussion) is based on "business" days (Mon-Fri) versus calendar days. Give them a few business days unless their sign-up clearly stated instantaneous/immediate setup after payment clearment.

During the Pre Sales Chat 1 hour before i bought and paid, they are working very fast on selling me their hosting very well convincing and telling me good things about it, but the moment i paid , all goes slow and also their chat support is always offline lol laugh.gif

Want to let us know who the service provider is? ;)

How would a reverse DNS lookup NOT give a pretty concise reading on whether a IP is being shared in hosting or not?

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Reverse_DNS_lookup

Google "network tools" and go to the first result.

Enter you domain name under express settings and you will get a heap of useful info.

Then enter the ip address displayed with this result and see what it says.

If it comes back with your domain, most likely you have a dedicated ip.

If not, its probably shared.

Note: Your host will need to add special values in their nameservers to get a reverse lookup working properly, but this should come as standard with any dedicated ip.
