Wp And Visa Cancellation

Recommended Posts

I just quit my job and my employer says that my WP and Visa(non-:o will be cancelled in two weeks from today. My extension, which is stamped in my passport, is good until Feb 2006. If everything is cancelled by my employer am I still permitted to stay in Thailand until Feb 2006?

When I was between jobs, I was told that the visa is only valid subject to a valid work permit. So as long as your WP is cancelled, you have two weeks (or was it one week) to 1) apply for a new WP and new visa, 2) Apply for a SHORT extention of the stay over the two weeks without a new work permit (and pay several thousand baht for this), or 3) leave the country and re-enter. So, it doesn't matter that your visa is valid till Feb '06... :o

Once WP is cancelled you supposedly have 7-14 (I've heard this can depend on who hands it in?) days to leave the country or get a further extension.

If you have a multiple entry Non-imm B and you still have time on the activation period you can go out and re-enter and get 90 days.

I also have a bank account which my employer set up for me. Is this mine to keep or will this be cancelled also? If I have large amounts of money wired in to the account from the USA will this pose a problem since I will now be on a tourist visa?

If you have ANY doubt about the ownership of a bank account why would you even consider putting money into it? You have a visa today. Today set up a new bank account in your name. Later you can send money into it with or without any visa. It is only the setting up of an account that they worry about visa status.
