Boycott Bangkok Air!

Recommended Posts

What's the latest on "the new airport on Koh Phangan" rumour that has been doing the rounds for several years ?

If that happened then there's your competition and associated price-war ... particularly if Air Asia were behind it ...

Would be a shame to trash more of the environment and have 2 airports so close. Really, they should apply pressure/incentive to PG to allow access to other airlines to Samui.

As stated by somebody else , BA made Samui big business . They put in a airport ( which in the old days was a very nice 1 , but i'm probably one of the only thinking that ) and a perfect go anywhere on the island cheap . And then they got the Thai disease ( allthough not only Thai ) GREED . They put in jets , which are probably way more expensive to operate , a very fancy but crap airport and fancy vans to bring everybody everywhere .

The vans are nice , while before they only where grey or white and no Samui Airport stickers on it and where dirtcheap . They put you off , even if you where the only one in the van , same price , no complaining . Now it is overly expensive and unless you have at least a tourism cut by 50% or more from low season tourism during 2 years or more you will not see the prices change ( if ever ) . Thais almost never use the airline because of it's price ( they do everywhere else in Thailand ) , so this is purely a farang based airline . As long as the farangs keep coming and living on Samui ... not a chance .

Jets won't be more expensive to operate or they wouldn't use them.. Maybe for a light load, the ATR turboprops might work out cheaper.

They are already allowing Thai Airways to use the airport. There must be a reason for that. Probably financial incentive. PG also fly elsewhere, and will presumably want to expand. They will need permission to do so, creating the opportunity to pressure them to open up Samui..

Yes Thai Airways do come and go from Samui, but the exorbitant landing fees that PG charge them make it impossible for them to become competitive or a cheaper alternative.

There is no easy answer to this one.
