Good English Speaking Staff Gps Shop In Bkk

Featured Replies

Plan to just go to Pantip this week, any other suggestions where to get a GPS that is easy to get to in BK?

I am particularly interested in Garmin.

Power buy told me that Garmin updates are only for a year, but they didn't know how much updates were after that. Actually their staff were useless. They also sa it is only in Thai lingo which I find hard to believe.

The forum sponsor in Chiang Mai say the updates are free. They seemed to be able to answer many more questions. I was reference to a Garmin Nuvi 205W.

thanks

Updates for out-of-warranty maps are available for the Thailand Street Map v10.1 from the ESRI website (GPSsociety) at 450 baht, postage paid, for Garmin Nuvi Gps units purchased in Thailand. Thailand Street Map is available in both English and Thai versions and comes on a ESRI CD.

Yeah. Gadget Trend. 2nd floor - Amarin Plaza - inside Outdoor Unlimited. When you see the bicycles - turn left, it will be on your left.

There is also a gadget trend in Thonglor (Suk 55)

I've had a Garmin for over two years now. It's very slow (5-10 mins) to pick up the satellites and is also becoming less reliable as some of the road systems in Bkk are developing.

So, its time for an update.

  • Can anyone tell me how much an update is likely to cost (and more importantly will my favorites (locations) remain ?

  • Is it likely that it'll speed up the 'locating Satellites' startup which at the moment is mind-numbingly slow and I'm often halfway there before the route registers.

You need a strong, unobstructed signal from a minimum of three GPS satellites before lock will occur and you should not have moved from your previous location fix. If in a car or truck, some tinted windows degrade the GPS satellite signal.
