TAT is announcing a Thai Tourism Festival @Suphan Buri, which will be held from 24 to 26 September 2010, during 10.00-22.00 hrs at Suphan Buri Provincial Stadium in Suphan Buri.

Admittedly, I only drove through Suphan soI have to ask, what are they promoting there?

as I live there between jobs I can't really say what the festival is about...but I know that Suphanburi has an interesting history: the advancing burmese armies passed thru there on the way to the sack of Ayudtthaya whenever it was that that happened...the story goes that the men were lured out to fight in some remote place leaving changwat Suphan (Suphan town) undefended except for women and old men and that they fought to the last person standing with rocks and sticks...

maybe apocryphal, dunno...heard the same thing about the siege of Cochabamba in Bolivia during the war of independence against Spain where the same thing happened on a promontory on the edge of town called La Coronilla where Mother's Day is commemorated every year with school children assembling to hear local patriotic bombast...

changwat Suphan has also got some nice ruins sorta like Ayudttahya...also some nice country in the NW of the province; too bad 'ol Boon Mee ain't around to elaborate as he useta live out that way...always intended to meet up with him with some beers at the changwat tesco-lotus food hall...

Off topic posts have been removed, this isn't an opportunity to critique Thai people but a discussion of Suphan Buri, thanks
