E-commerce Infrastructure In Thailand

Featured Replies

What is the present state of e-commerce infrastructure in Thailand?

1) How common is electronic money (eg VISA, cash card, etc)? How much does it take to get started? How old must a person be in order to get one? Can one buy electronic money off the counter from 7-11 like he buys a phone card top-up card.

2) Is there a Thai language based Internet Search engine like Yahoo? Is the Thai language code standardised yet? In Chinese, there are so many versions of the codes for Taiwan, mainland, HK users such that if you enter a word using a HK software into a Search engine, you may not find those relevant information that is recrded in another code.

3) which demography of people (age, edu, gender, income level, geo) use internet/

4) Are thai internet users ready to buy online?

Last time I checked, Paypal did not accept credit card issued in Thailand.

See here.

For your questions ...

1:

Credit Card business is booming in Thailand.

Not sure about the electronic money you are reffering, kind of e-wallet or cashcard...

I heard a few projects about it, banks or the BTS (The Mass Transport system ... like in HongKong, where your can pay for your transport and other things with the same card ... but even in Singapore they have not managed to put this in place).

2:

Unfortunately for me, I do not know.

Not sure how many of us on this forum can read enough Thai to surf thai web site ...

3:

Better contact the ISP marketing department, they should know.

4:

I would guess that most of them order from abroad ... not from Thailand.

You could ask my wife. It has shown up in her current research into technology leapfrogging but not sure how far she pursued it or wheteher she will, I just remember it was an issue she discussed with me.

My principle question is, putting all the bits and pieces together, do you need people to pay for te conferences before they actually happen, as in pre-booking. I am assuming of course all your questions are related throughout the threads, re work permit etc.

IMHO it is better to do the seminars with in country booking via a local bank. People will feel safer, based on some people reticence about the Thailand Elite Card being paid for in US Dollars, in Singapore, which if I am not too far off the line, is where you are Professor. Would that fit?
