I am confused... if the pills were fake, why was the man charged with illegally selling erectile dysfunction medication?

Either the pills were active with the real active molecule inside, in which case he should be charged, or the pills were fakes without the proper substance inside and then he should be charged with fraud??

Probably poorly worded article. The last sentence says the pills were fake Viagra. I bought some 30 in India for $2 many years ago....wanted to give them away as jokes, but never did...

I've unwittingly bought fake tablets here in Pattaya. I knew because they didn't work. In the case of antibiotics it really is criminal. Now I go to the same pharmacy where I can be assured of genuine pills.

I am not sure, but many of the 'fake' drugs aren't completely fake, but rather they are only a fraction of the proper dosage. I am sure there are some that are actually completely fake, but the most common scam is to severely reduce the amount of the active ingredient.

It's rather scary when you think of it--doing the same thing as those selling illegal drugs on the corner--cutting the dosage.

why buy Viagra pills anyway, when there is Kamagra?

This is the drug you are using?

One of the most common fake Viagra medications is called Kamagra and it is mainly manufactured in India. The dangers of using this fake medication have been highlighted recently after an American tourist passed away after using a Kamagra tablet. The man who was on holiday in Thailand died just before he attempted to have sex a lady he had met in the holiday resort of Pattaya.

Fake versions of Viagra like Kamagra are made in substandard factories in remote areas of the third world and are not made to the same strict regulations and rules that are required by the world health authorities like the FDA and the EMEA. These drugs can be extremely tempting for men to use because they are produced and sold so cheaply, but at the end of the day you receive what you pay for.

At Ukmedix News we have come across reports that men using fake Viagra tablets often experience overdoses or find that the medication is completely ineffective. This happens because the manufacturers of the drugs do not properly mix in the active ingredient sildenafil citrate and thus each pill and has a different potency. This obviously is extremely dangerous and could have contributed to the death of the American tourist in Thailand.

The Thai medical authorities have warned about fake versions of Viagra that are very common in their country and say that as well as sometimes being too strong they often contain impurities that should not be present.

Probably charged with the equivalent to selling a drug deemed to be the real deal. If you get caught with a fake gun in Thailand (as most countries) you are tried as an individual with intent & are liable to do all thee time required for a real gun. Intent is actually a good law, it keeps the honest honest......... & the losers they will always take a chance even if it means Bangkok Hilton. Probably a good time for the Pharmacist to try being a lady boy! :whistling:

STIFF PENALTY, Author trying to inject a bit of humour...

A good pun indeed, I missed it the first time, I wonder if 1 in 10 did as well?

With that headline, there was little in the story that I had not anticipated, no doubt the the wrongdoers will have a hard time...

I already read this exact text on pharma lobby websites, where you probably copied it.

Kamagra is not fake Viagra, since it doesn't claim to be Viagra.

It just contains the same active substance: sildenafil citrate.

The text you copied is just common scare-mongering by the lobby.

There is no proof of any of the claims made.

But if the lobby wanted to prove something, like the gross misdosages and the sub-standard production procedures, they could just buy 2 boxes of Kamagra and test them for dosage and purity. Very cheap to do and easy to prove under lawyer's supervision.

But no... they don't want to do that. Why not?

For sure, copied it from some website...I have no idea which one. But! Where is Kamagra manufactured? India. Why is it on the "red list" of the US FDA? Because it is not an approved drug. Which means they have not validated the manufacturing process...which means you have no idea how much of the drug is in each tab. You can not legally purchase this drug in the US...nor can you bring it into the US.

I would NEVER trust any drug from India....people die all the time here in Thailand due to use of sildenafil citrate (viagra, etc.). Sildenafil citrate is a controlled substance and is "suppose" to be issued under doctors orders. Right?

The lobby relies on the FDA to do the testing. The FDA even tests the "lobby's" drugs. All above board and out in the open. And a complicated and expensive process!

Good thing for Ranbaxy, Cadila, Lincoln, and Matrix (a couple of them have ED meds that don't pay license fees to Lily, Pfizer, etc. in their product lines) and their multibillion $/Euro worldwide markets, not everyone shares that belief.

Where is Kamagra manufactured? India.

Looks like you imply India only manufactures crap products.

Why is it on the "red list" of the US FDA? Because it is not an approved drug. Which means they have not validated the manufacturing process...which means you have no idea how much of the drug is in each tab.

Flawed logic.

When something has not been tested by the FDA, it only means exactly that and nothing more.

Firstly, there are other very reliable approval organisations besides the FDA.

Secondly, as long as no testing has been done, there is no reason to believe Kamagra contains something different from what's written on the package.

You can not legally purchase this drug in the US...nor can you bring it into the US.

With "this drug" you mean the brand name Kamagra.

Sildenafil citrate can be bought and imported if you have a medical prescription for that substance.

Prescriptions are valid for active ingredients, not just for brand names.

I would NEVER trust any drug from India....people die all the time here in Thailand due to use of sildenafil citrate (viagra, etc.).

India is one of the places in the world where many medications are manufactured, including a lot that are then exported to the USA and other countries.

There is no logical link between Kamagra being from India and "people dying all the time in Thailand" due to use of sildenafil citrate (viagra, etc.).

In my eyes, the fake Viagra products (i.e. blue pills looking like Viagra and claiming to be Viagra, mainly manufactured in China) are much more likely to contain an over-dosage than alternative branded products like Kamagra.

<<

Sildenafil citrate is a controlled substance and is "suppose" to be issued under doctors orders. Right?

>>

Exactly - lax selling practices in Thailand or misuse by the buyer do not mean the drug is of bad quality.

Don't try to mix these issues.

I'd expect people with heart problems or other unfavorable conditions to die as much from genuine brand Viagra as from Kamagra.

<<

The lobby relies on the FDA to do the testing. The FDA even tests the "lobby's" drugs. All above board and out in the open. And a complicated and expensive process!

>>

I'm not saying the FDA testing and approval procedures are a bad thing.

I'm saying it is abusive to make unsubstantiated claims that Kamagra is responsible for deaths because the alleged claim that their product is misdosed and contains impurities.

Prove it first.

And I strengthen my point further by saying that such official testing could easily be initiated by Pfizer, and if the results were really so negative for Kamagra, they would virtually destroy Kamagra's market overnight.

But this doesn't happen...
