Applying For A Work Permit

Featured Replies

Question, I am in the process of applying for a work permit for which I have a Multiple Non B.

I originally applied for the Non B via the "invitation" of a previous company but did not apply for a work permit, can I still use this Non B to apply for a work permit for the new company (its valid till December) or do I need to obtain a new one ?

Im being told from the left that I can and from the right that I cannot ! :o

Appreciate if anyone in the know how could give me a simple answer.

Yes you can. A visa, is a visa, is a visa.

Will add that the validity of the work permit will only be your current permitted stay - not until December. Once you have work permit you can extend your stay if you meet conditions and then get a new work permit for that extended stay.

Short answer is yes. You can apply for a new WP with the same visa.

Now for the long bit. Are you on your first 3months, 2nd 3 months, been down to immigration for an extention..? You should be aware the visa and WP are separate, so the complete answer depends on you telling us additional info.

The length of my current permitted stay runs out in less than 3 months (I have just recently done a border run), so your saying my work permit will expire then ?

Does this mean I have to re-apply for a work permit every 3 months ? :o

No, it doesn't matter mate, apply on the entry you have now and you should get around a 9 month extension once everything has been sorted. Doesn't matter at all what entry you're on and you've not had a work permit before (have you?).

Nope ! Never had one before.

So this 9 month extension which I "should" get, is it pretty straight forward and how much would it cost ?

First you need the work permit before you even think of an extension of stay. That work permit will only be until the end of your current 90 day stay. The extension of stay will cost 1.900 baht. You will need to meet income requirements of your job/nationality in order to extend. If you do not you will have to have a new work permit every entry.

Dont like the sound of that ! :o So who determines if I get this extension, immigration or labour office ?

Immigration.

OK, Lopburi3 says that Immigration determines your work permit extension, spoke to a Thai lawyer yesterday who says Labour office extends it ? :o

Anyone out there who could clarify this ?

I did not say that - what I said was that immigration extends your stay. Immigration has nothing to do with a work permit. The work permit follows; and that will be a visit to the labor office.
