Runaway Vehicle Results in Injury of Driver

PATTAYA: -- A vehicle ran away down a ravine and collided with a tree, injuring the driver when the steering and brakes failed to work after the engine cut out.

Pattaya, 2nd September 2010 [PDN] At approximately 8.30 pm Police Captain Narongdet Tanaphoonsin (Pattaya Police Deputy Chief Inspector) received notification of an accident involving a car that had fallen from Phratamnuk Hill into the ravine, resulting in one injury. The incident occurred close to the Police box on Moo10, Nongprue, Banglamung. Subsequently the officer along with Sawang Boriboon Foundation team went to the scene to investigate.

the engine suddenly cut out, causing the steering and brakes to fail. The vehicle picked up speed as it went downhill demolishing a road sign

I wounder what the fuel gauge read?

ok, engine cut and the power assisted steering and brakes became heavier than usual... so use more effort!

Geez!

what about the handbrake?

Fuel-Saving car driver’s lucky escape on the Pratamnuk Mountain in South Pattaya

PATTAYA: -- A bizarre road accident occurred on the Pratamnuk Mountain area on Thursday Night which left the driver of a Silver Toyota Vios with suspected whiplash injuries. Khun Anan aged 30 had spent the evening at the Pattaya Viewpoint, admiring the stunning views. He prepared to leave and jumped into his car and decided to save on fuel by coasting down the steep exit road.

While this may be a bit of journalistic licence with the facts, the <deleted> already has a fuel efficient hybrid and was running without power, so nothing in the car would work, as suggested above the handbrake would be the only thing working.
