Not me of course but I have seen some posters who are just too smart.

If you enter into an argument with these people there is virtually no fair way to win.

Normally when this happens to me I make a comment about the thread going off topic and stop posting.

But some of the others posters are humorous in the vehemence of their responses. They insult or change the subject or tell the poster that he has pimples or some other irrelevant smear even scraping the bottom of the academic barrel for big words. Or try and bring down the hammer of authority to bash the poster out of existence.

I truly believe that almost everything written on Thai Visa given the volume of posted rules can somehow be construed to being against something.

But most threads exist in spite of the potential pitfalls.

Except for the really bright posters who don’t act dumb.

I wonder does anyone else realize when certain names pop up that the end is near. If the bright person does not agree with you do you realize it is only a matter of time before your position gets chewed up and thrown out with the dishwater? Or do you find yourself the intellectual equal to anyone and charge on fearing no one?

I had a friend who was the head litigation attorney for a very influential law firm. He had a following when he appeared in court even though the case was boring corporate law. He always won right or wrong. Sometimes I feel the same reading some threads on Thai Visa.

I actually like his posts, for all the wrong reasons, but I like them none the less.

My best advice is to avoid any thread about Thai politics where there's the slightest possibility that your view might be construed as even .001% sympathetic towards the Red Shirts or Thaksin voters. You'll soon have a baying pack of posters who aren't half as smart as they think they are churning out the same well worn cliches ad nauseum neatly pigeonholing a large number of Thai people who they've never met into one easily digestible lump.

I have an idea who has prompted this thread by Mark and it is not UG......the person(s) I am thinking about seldom leave(s) a chink to allow any real diversion from their opinion

When you are debating with posters who do no research before posting and just make up "facts" and figures (or just hurl hateful taunts), it is difficult not to appear "too smart" if one puts any effort at all into a post.

I generally find that direct insults achieve nothing other than to make the speaker sound ignorant, unpleasant and poorly educated.

Its quite practical to incense and enrage a poster without directly insulting them, even for one with wit as limited as mine

I suppose I am fortunate to have so many limitations to boast of...

Arrogance is clear when one fails to accept that their assumption(s) lack merit. In this case, one cannot logically infer arrogance from a one sentence response to an attack without knowing more. What you are doing is not critiquing, but merely piling on. It's unjustified and therefore should stop.
