Steven Seagal

Featured Replies

Why did Steven Seagal let himself get so fat? I just saw some recent video of him and he must be over 300 pounds. I can understand the average common person letting themselves get too fat, but not someone with martial arts study. The very self discipline that it takes to reach the black belt level in martial arts should be something that I would expect to continue in every day life. Seagal has turned from a svelt hard body to a big tubby and it doesn't seem to fit what I would expect of someone in martial arts.

Poor parenting and genetics can be to blame for many people getting fat, but that wouldn't be Seagal's problem. When he burst onto the movie screen he was a mature man with a great, lean hard body. That changed over his movie career. By contrast, Sly Stallone and Mickey O'Rouke, who are of similar age vintage, are sleek race horses.

I personally don't CARE how others treat their bodies. It's entirely up to themselves. Some people are jocks and some people are sedentary computer nerds. I've got fat friends and skinny friends and it doesn't matter to me. But, it just surprises me when a serious martial arts practitioner gets fat. The one common thread with a martial arts is self discipline, and Seagal seems to have lost that discipline when he became famous.

& BK's quintuble beef, cheese, bacon, egg & onion lard burger for breakfast everyday.

It's just the amount of grease he puts on his hair.

It slowly creeps down the follicle, enters his brain and when that volume is full, slips down further and further.

Even if he stops the treatment now, there is so much hair grease inside him that he'll explode within five years.

And his martial arts skills never impressed me. It was very poorly done, a lot in speeded-up filming. Reckon I could take him - even at my advanced age.

Steven Seagul - real martial arts testing/demonstration.

Could his being 58 yrs old have anything to do with it?

It shouldn't. Recent photos of Sly Stallone and Micky O'Rourke make them look like hard body guys in their twenties. Age shouldn't have anything to do with it. Too much eating the wrong food and lack of exercise will put on the pounds. I'm almost 71 and don't look like Seagal's physique. And, I eat quite well.

Not really - I'm 73, still hashing and playing vet's rugby, living in SE Asia and working full-time.

1m80 tall and under 90 kg. But what was on my chest is now around my waist. (not hair - never had much on my head, none on my body)

Maybe the movie critics made him turn to comfort food.

Or he made enough money to eat ALL the pies.

He is in the top worst actors. Along with his mates Chuck and Van Damme.

He's certainly turned into a bit of a porker.

When he first came to the screen there was no doubt about his presence. Combine that with eleventy fifth dan blackbelt, fluent Japanese and his air of confidence....he could walk the talk.

Harcourt lets him off lightly.

Hollywood cocaine. (and the krispy kremes)

Regards.

<deleted> 'ell Patsy. Lumping him in with Chuck and Daisy is a bit extreme. B)

He walks like a robot and has a face that has no emotion and always wears tight jeans. And seems to read his lines.

He is not a hottie.

Have you ever seen him do a different sort of movie. Like a comedy or a romance or a sob story? Like most of the other actors out there.

OK a bit harsh - van damme has an IQ of 2.

:cheesy:

He got the chance to phone a friend then.

He is not actually that big right now.

Here in the US he has been on a new show called the lawman

I saw a couple of episodes.

Kind of a reality TV deal where he is now a real life lawman now back in his old home town. During interviews he said it was his way of giving back & he actually prefers it to acting.

Anyway on it they had a few episodes where he is training the other cops in self defense.

He still moves very well indeed. He also is filmed running & chasing down young gang types & he runs fine. Not like an overweight type. Granted he is much bigger/thicker than his younger days.

Also they all went to the firing range where he brought out an assortment of his own hand guns. He is an excellent marksman. While helping other cops pass their shooting tests he demonstrates his abilities. Very very accurate

But, you have to admit that Van Damme was a pretty boy in his prime. And, he still has a good body. Forget the lack of a brain.

I disagree with the comment (by HB) about Arnold Schwarzenegger, though. Arnold is a very smart man, and knew just how to market himself. Although Arnold no longer looks buff like he did in his muscle pumping days, he hasn't let himself go to fat, either.

Lantern jaws and hair-loss will sortta tell you how Sly and Micky keep it up ( or not )

That is an old picture after open heart surgery.. Now he is back in shape of course not as he was before.

I suspect that some overweight people might resent your "let himself" comment.

In a way they are responsible themselves, you don't get fat if you don't eat too much. I could get fat easy but i don't let it happen by making sure i get the right food and enough exercise. Else i would get fat easy. Some ppl don't get fat others do but its not an excuse you can still combat it.

Of to my own lil gym to do some bench presses 36 yo but still pressing around 260lbs 4 sets of 8. It all depends on what you think is more important. That nice cheeseburger.. or your body.. that great beer.. or that glass of water.

Watching tv all night or going out to a gym or doing some other sports. There is a lot you can do... but you can't stop aging.. you can just slow it down and keep in shape. Its better for your health too.

Come back and talk on the same subject when you're 60, Rob. :D

Sure i dont think i can keep up forever, but if i look at my dad who is 63 and he rides his bike a couple of 100 kilometers each week (weather permitting). I think i will try to keep active. I will never be able to keep it as it is now but i can look a lot better and be healthier then others in my age class.

You cant stop aging and you cant stop your body getting weaker but you can slow it down a lot.

Why not keep healthy and in shape ? And i dont mean like a top athlete but keep the fat away and the heart pumping.

If i look at my mom who is also 63 and she doesnt do any sports.. there is a big difference between the two. Dad is full of life and active while mom is always complaining about her body and pains.
