Recommendations For Internet Tv For Aus/Us/Uk Expats

Featured Replies

I've had True Visions Platinum for three months and it's very unimpressive given the cost. I'm not against True as I think their internet at 6Mbps for 599 is fine.

The main programs I'm interested in on TV are news, movies and documentaries like HBO, CNN, BBC, Discovery, History Channel, MTV etc but True Visions shows a lot of repeats. I did search this forum and found 'wwiTV' using Google, could anyone suggest internet TV providers which they have been happy with using at home in Thailand as an alternative to True Visions? I'd be happy to pay for TV if it had benefits people have found.

Thanks.

Not sure exactly what you are looking for, but i use a Slingbox. This can be found online. What you do is buy one, have it connected to someone's house wherever you want. Mine is at my mom's house in the USA. It is connected to her cable and is connected to her internet. Then you can connect to it by using the software or via the internet by going to slingbox website and logging in. I did hear there are companies that will host the sling box for you if you dont have someone that you can put the box to.

Now it works ok, not great picture which will depend on your internet connection on both ends. However Im happy with it.

Hope this helps.

As a matter of interest, the 'True' 6 Mbps for 599 Baht; do you get that download speed for international sites as well? I saw that there are some decent deals advertised for speed and price but I'm told they're only that fast for within Thailand.

Thanks for the suggestions about Slingbox, I got a very useful PM from another member with two sites and info about how to download and playback on a TV (cheers!), and I trawled though this forum and found livestation, which seems it might satisfy my requirements in combination with the others.

About the True 6Mbps, I've used the Speed Test on this site and on others on the net (like speedtest ) where you can choose which server - it varies wildly. For example adslthailand only give a few options US, UK, HK, Singapore and they all show 6Mbps download, 512 up. Unless there's a problem with the site I don't know of, I'm inclined to believe it. Now speedtest, on the other hand, gives dozens of options and it varies. I just did a server in London, UK, and it was 6.01Mbps, then one in Ohio, US and it was 1.06Mbps. Then weirdly, one in LA, even further, and it was 6.06Mbps. As you can tell from my post I'm a tech-retard, so this is all witchcraft to me.
