UPDATED Current Flooded Areas & Forecasts

Recommended Posts

Thanks Boater for mentioning the predicted rainfall. Till lately I ignored forecasts but with 300/260 mm we bought new sandbags which are up to now a good investment....

Could you please say where you brought the sand bags, I think this could be useful information people to know...

During the last flood in November there was a place towards the sea near Soi 1 in Maenam (by the bridge) providing bags and self fill... not heard that that is the case this time... but there are probably several places around the island......posting locations maybe of use! :jap:

Sorry, just after my posting the power went off. If you are still interested in sand bags I will ask the guy who bought them for me.

better stock up, looks like 4th or 5th we're in for the next round

Where did you get that info joe? I've told by three or four different people itd light rain and drizzle until the 5th then sunshine.

there's a pretty nasty storm off the coast of vietnam headed this way. a few days out at this point. intellicast has pretty good satellite images. i use those to temper the rampant imaginations of my captains and staff who believe this next one will park itself right on top of us for the remainder of april.

Car now full of diesel and fridge now stocked with fresh produce.

Congratulations you done well. Did you happen to shop at Big C or Lotus Chaweng?

I understand Lotus Lamai is still closed.

I got the fuel, now I need the food...

Anyone know how the supermarkets are fairing?

7-11 near Namuang waterfall 2 has a few items,

and I was lucky to get milk, but it was the last one.

Well the power just went out in Namuang and Lipa Noi,

down the street from Nikki Beach.

Could be a good time to go grocery shopping,

but where?

Lotus Lamai is still closed.

Anyone know about Nathon Lotus,

though I hate the express mart,

or Chaweng Lotus or Big C?

I'm running off of my power supply,

so hopefully the power won't be out for long...

Great, so Big C has restocked?

I'm glad to hear it, we are down to milk and rice,

and some vegetables from the local market.

I didn't want to make the venture all the way over to Big C area if the Lotus & Big C are dry,

what a waste of time. I have mold growing in my truck already,

and it hasn't left the house except to the gas station once.

I figure I'll have to get it treated at Carrcare Big C,

while I stock up on the food.

Thinking I might be wasting my time, going to Tesco Chawang today, I was more than surprised to find that they actually had everything I needed.... Milk, bread, cornflakes, veggies (fairly good selection) .... cheese etc.... :DBut still no Tesco Dark chocolate, which they've been out of for months :realangry:

Staff busily restocking shelves.... amazingly too, no line up at the tils .... :)

As for the ring road between Maenam & Chawang, not too bad, a few foot washing puddles, but tons of sand, which crews were starting to clear.... Several signs along the road saying to "Slow Down" .... Saw one Bob Cat with bucket scooping up sand...

Garbage pick up obviously behind, but they were working on that... lots of sodden mattresses... out with the general rubbish bags... those would fill the trucks quickly...

Well at least a dryer day, let's hope it lasts!

Yeah me too. We've had enough rain this year. It wasn't fun going through the two months of drought, without a drop of water coming from the tap, but this is so much more damaging and hard to work around.

Great update concerning everything most of care to know about, very helpful indeed.

I'll make the journey tomorrow for sure.

Thanks for your insight, and feedback.

Travel safely all, and lets hope the worst is behind us,

which I believe from everything I've reviewed, it is.

All the best,

Cheers

Just been told there is a load of bad weather heading this way from Mon again ? I still can't drive up to the house due the the concrete poles being brought down by a large tree and they are talking of a month before they can get to me as not a priority as we are the only house up the mountain. Looks like it is little brown envelope time again. :(

Yep I've heard the same. We were in a guesthouse up in Hua Thanon but the power cables all came down and were blocking the road. The otherway round to the house had a bridge which is on the verge of collapse and still no electric or water. We've headed into Lamai to stay in a hotel for a couple of nights and the Thais are all saying more bad weather expected on the 4th and 5th. Trying to find somewhere affordable to stay today in the hopes that it won't be as bad as Hua Thanon. Hope you get your situation sorted... with everywhere else reaching some normality I think its worth the extra cost of some comfort for a couple of nights.

there is a rather impressive system headed this way at the moment. who knows, things can and do change. i'm trying to make sure all of the household necessities are stocked up by tomorrow because i don't expect to be able to do anything close to normal samui shopping now until after next weekend. not much luck though as tesco nathon was basically empty just an hour ago and every other major outlet will be short unless they had deliveries today and/or tomorrow. hatches are being battened, so to speak.

Oh dear! Hope not. Not showing up on Windguru yet, but no doubt it will!

Would you be kind enough & tell me & other members where this information is coming from? If I would have posted this with no facts, I would have been accused of scaremongering.

So can you please quote a source.

Are the ferries running again ? Anybody in here from Surat Thani, i wish to know what the situation there is. Especially from Tesco for about 5 klm towards the airport near bus station on left.

Surat Thani and especially Phun Phin are bad in the moment. More or less, according to Thai TV, no way in or out of Surat at the moment.

rooo i've already said where i look, anyone with access to the internet can find "interactive weather radar maps asia" using any significant search engine and extrapolate. ton of satellites out there. factor in wind speed and direction and there you go. windguru is about as helpful as cow shit for chapped lips. google samui weather and odds are you will see "chance of thunderstorms" better than 300 days per year. look for a satellite photo of what is actually happening and take it from there. there's nothing i'd rather be than wrong haha. i have tomatoes that need to stretch their legs.

Despite all the instant armchair met expertise available on this forum WindGuru has been remarkably accurate so far.

At the moment we are looking at a bit of bad weather next Saturday. Lots of scaremongering going on I fear. If the "high pressure" over China weakens then we can all sleep easily again. If not, then back to panic buying at 7/11. :(

Tesco Chewang today at 4 pm had loads of bread, diary stuff and fruit. Not much in the way of meat and veg. Also large Leo at 482 a case!

A friend trying to get a train to BKK was told - no way and not by bus either. Problems were on the mainland as the ferries are running.

I agree with limbos - windguru is pretty good as long as you keep refreshing the page. Almost 100 % correct for the last 10 days.

Regarding floods, I have been driving around Choengmon/Plai Laem/ Bang Rak/Bophut and the north end of Chewang and everywhere is passable by bike.

Fully agree Rooo, despite many people not liking Windguru, in general they do give the best predictions, in my humble opinion.

Mine too. They were spot on for the rain arriving this last time, and that was on the Sunday before the Thursday that it started.

i'm a licensed pilot and i work out on the water, i not only know how to read actual weather, you know like up in the sky but charts as well. over the last year windguru has been one of the least accurate providers of reliable local weather data and a reason why we always refer to 2 or 3 different sources as a backup. most people on this forum using windguru probably don't even know about the wave info or windspeed and look only at precipitation. scroll up or down and see the number of posts describing the stalled traffic on the mainland. vehicles are simply not moving out of surat. that means it's less likely that large container trucks will make it to donsak to bring us food and supplies. any storm hitting us in the next day or two will easily delay road clearing in surat, can certainly have an impact on ferries etc. it's not scaremongering to think that normal supplies will not be available until next weekend, it's common sense.

"As for the public infrastructure, 2,520 roads, 218 drainage pipes, 46 dikes, 236 bridges, 320 temples and schools as well as 76 state offices were damaged.

The Highway Department reported that as of Friday evening, 24 roads were impassable to vehicles and the Nakhon Si Thammarat airport remained closed due to heavy flooding. Southbound train services from the capital stop at Surat Thani's Tha Chana station."

Aljazeera, BBC and Oz network have all shown new Low pressure system making it's way, from the East, in weather reports... for our area, starting Monday, although it's starting to look a bit iffy now....

Also showing the flooding, not just in Samui but other areas of southern Thailand...

Some one else phoned me yesterday saying they in same predicament as Rooo & H20 Dunc... stuck up on a hill and will be stuck for weeks before fixed... without a long walk out...

I too cannot ever figure out Wind guru, either, I think you have to be Popeye, to understand it! ;)

As Joe84330 says " button down the hatches"

Soon we'll all need to get "happy pills" :).... but it was nice to see about half an hour of sun yesterday and no rain (Maenam anyway) ....

Oh just started to rain again! :o
