I can't believe there is so much negativity about Pattaya. When I was there in April this year I had the time of my life, not one complaint. I was only there for 6 days, ###### I wish I'd found it sooner. Perhaps I am naive to say it was all fine and dandy? or perhaps most are just pessimistic?

Patters is a great place no worse than any other city - remember over the top news sells papers. :D

:o Ditto that Brit. If only they'd hurry up with tidying up Beach Road they'd get a lot more Good Press, especially from first timers.

I would love to read about Pattaya bake sales, the weekly doings of the kennel club and the ladies' auxiliary, not to mention an uplifting message or two from a pastor.

I don't know too much about Baking, but I reckon you should be able to indulge in a tart or two.

As for the kennel club, there will be a new influx of dogs to Pattaya around October/November

Uplifting message? Will you settle for an uplifting MASSAGE

Is this some sort of peadafile gay thread , or is it normal for you guys to hunt down 17 year old people working for a livng , or am i missing something

Asolutely.... missing the whole scene actually, or maybe I didn't paint it too well (or perhaps a bit misleading) in the first place... :o

For the record, my caddy is a university student from Monday to Friday, whose only income is from the caddy fees and tips she receives on the weekends. Her father has left the family, leaving her mother alone and with no income to support her 3 kids. My caddy is the sole breadwinner from the family, she is not only supporting them, but paying for her tuition at uni. She's a bright intelligent girl and never grumbles about anything.

<deleted> Jai Dee,

Of course all of us with one eye open know that all Thai women, and most men, that live within 2,500 klms of Pattaya are uneducated, come from Issarn, and their sole purpose in life is to milk Baht from foreigners until they are so poor that the only choice left to them is to throw themselves off the balcony of their condo.

good news about pattaya

a lot of the people living there are happy and have one ###### of a sense of humour, and that's why people go back

Positive stuff about Pattaya ? Well, there is none. If you want positive stuff, go to Chang Mai, Khon Kaen, Nong Khai (anywhere in Isaan !).

Don't look at Pattaya. In fact, erase everything you have that mentions Pattaya. The north is much nicer. Friendlier people, better climate, better water, cheaper prices. The farm girls up there are even poorer and more innocent than the ones in Pattaya, with fewer sick buffalo on the family farm.

Yes, Pattaya is past it's glory. Go elsewhere to find happier times. Tell all your friends. The north is the place to be ! Get there while you still can. If you go to Pattaya, you might not ever leave (on your 2 feet). The murders/suicides, terrible roads, sewage water fed through your water system, high crime rate, double pricing system. Pattaya has it all !

It's much better up north. Leave now.......right now..........stop reading and start packing...........NOW !

Paid Announcement by the Move Everyone North party

(note that things up north are probably quite boring. All the problems in Pattaya just add to excitement of living here !)

So much cynism, sarcasm and negative comment about Pattaya.......well, here's some positive stuff about Pattaya.

Pattaya, very much like London, Amsterdam or New York, is a multi-ethnic, cosmopolitan and vibrant city, with its own distinct and individual character. Like people, there is good and bad in every city and it is naïve to place judgment on a city, or a person, based on the negative aspects of this character, especially as portrayed by some of the subscribers to this website. Pattaya deserves a comment on its character from the people who have chosen to reside here, to work here and who have no financial or other Brownie points to gain.

I live in Jomtien, Pattaya. I chose Pattaya after considering carefully the alternatives. That was my choice after living and working elsewhere in Thailand. I live here because I like it here. I have no misconceptions about Pattaya and, once again, I exercise choice on what I do and where I go. I would do this no matter where I lived, Pattaya, London, New York or Sydney. The important point is that I have so much to choose from. Maybe that is why “visitors” (families, couples, senior citizens and singles of course) from all corners of the globe come back year after year, in the face of the often heard comment “Can’t imagine why anyone would want to visit Pattaya”.

There is a decent and established infrastructure here. Hospitals, hotels, communications, shopping are probably second only to Bangkok, which itself can be reached in an hour and a half on motorway standard roads. International schools are arguably the best in Thailand. Cinemas would satisfy the most ardent of movie fans. The area is a golfer’s paradise with 19 superb golf courses nearby. The gourmets amongst us are spoiled for choice; we could eat well and cheaply in a different restaurant every day of the year. There are the endless white pristine beaches of Rayong, within an hours’ drive, even surpassing those of Phuket. I accept that Pattaya beach has some way to go before it can be called anything near pristine but it is getting better. Jomtien Beach, on the other hand, provides 14 kilometres of clean windsurfing and sailing waters. For those who want the security and comfort of expat societies, they are here in abundance. Pattaya makes an all-out attempt to provide the best of everything.

Last, but by no means least, there is the night life….clubs, discos, girlie bars and go-go bars. Choice is the by-word here. You partake or you don’t, there is no obligation. For those of you who haven’t seen the sleazy equivalents in Soho, Amsterdam, Hamburg or Lisbon, in comparison, Pattaya is Disney Land when it comes to the sex scene. If the night life centres of Pattaya are somewhat brash and noisy for some, there are alternative, quieter places for evening fun and relaxation.

Obviously, Pattaya has its downside; I could write more on this but the point of my posting is to offset the widely held misconceptions about the city. It is NOT a “###### on Earth”. Simply, it’s a case of if you have never tried it then don’t knock it. Maybe, if you do try it, you might find it a “Heaven on Earth”, as the majority of visitors and residents do.

So, drop the sarcasm and cynicism and look beyond your distorted view of Pattaya.
