Farang Food In Roi-Et

Hello,

I am a newbie on this forum so apologies if I post this in the wrong section

I am currently living in Phuket, however I am toying with the idea of moving to Roi-Et, as my girlfriend lives there. Now I have 2 questions for you guys....

1) Should I go and see a good psychiatrist?? (joke )

2) Do you know if there is a bar / restaurant in Roi-Et that sells farang food, like steaks, sausages, pies etc...? Don’t get me wrong, I love Thai food, in fact I eat Thai food most days, however (as they say) variety is the spice of life and the occasional Western food fix wouldn’t go amiss!

I dont live in Roi-Et but have visited on several occasions.

However not for around 3 years so I may be a little out of date.

White Elephant resturant and bar is/was fantastic for a fix of potato and rissoles.

It is close to Roi-Et city hotel and just over the canal. Friendly and all food looked good.

The other is/was 101 Pizza on the south side of the lake with good burgers and pizza.

However I heard that the farang owner died so not sure now.

Roi-Et is a great place although a little isolated now that there is no air service.

There will be others here that know more than me but I hope this will be some help and help you to get some feed back.

Leaving aside the inevitable MacDonalds, Pizza Hut and KFC there is not much in the way of farang food in Roi Et. As previously said the White Elephant is good, with a reasonable choice. It is probably the only mainly farang restaurant (they do Thai food too) but you can get a good steak at the fairly new and very good Enjoy Restaurant on the airport road just past Homeshop, right side heading out of town. A few other predominantly Thai restaurants serve some farang food, eg. steak, spagetti etc. but nothing which would make the Michelin Guide.

If you are just talking about the food, Makro in Roi Et has some reasonable sausages - Cumberland and Fatboy - in the frozen food section. These are probably not in the same class as from the Pie Man, but a lot better than the usual Thai stuff.

Suggest you try Happyman Meats/Restaurant/Bar close to the north side of Bueng Phalanchai Lake in Roi Et.

Mikes stock of frozen meat includes fillet, rib eye, tenderloin and T bone steaks, beef burgers, boneless lamb leg, lamb chops, pork chops, English Cumberland sausages, black puding, Wiltshire bacon and corned beef. Also in stock are steak/mushroom pies, steak/kidney pies, apple crumble, pickled onions, gherkins, mushy peas and lard.

Mike is a nice guy, and its a good place to have some farang food and a beer...
